Question about Gateway FX400S PC Desktop
I can turn my pc on and about 5 to 10 mins later the pc shuts off. The power button light is still on but nothing is running. The fans are working so not sure if there is a overheating problem. If anyone can help resolve this issue or advise what I need to do further.
I think you are right. There is an overheating problem. The questions are, what is overheating and why?
Dust is the single most common cause of computers overheating. Dust on fan blades can reduce their cooling capacity by large amounts.
Dust can also cause premature failure in cooling fans. You may have a "dead" fan in there and you don't know it yet.
The trick for you would be (if I was investigating, this is what I would do) remove the cover (assuming this is a desktop or tower) and turn it on. From here you can visually see which fans are moving and which are not.
Exception is the power supply fan; which is sometimes inside the power supply casement.
A can of forced air may help here, but try not to breathe that stuff.
