Question about Iomega 32883 40 GB Hard Drive

Unable to install IOMEGA HDD on Vista Home Premium

I actually have an IOMEGA 80 GB external hard disk. It is one of the older models, having an external power adapter. It works fine on XP, but I just bought a new Toshiba M600 with Windows Vista Home Premium. On this system the HDD dosent work. I am also having major problems with printers and SD cards. On the net it says that Vista should have all these drivers, but my laptop dosent seem to, although the Vista is fully updated. Please help. I have searched the internet, asked people but no solutions at all.

    hi fire sine,

i appreciate your effort but obviously I hav already tried that. Ideally an external storage device should not even require a driver. but i found some on the IOMEGA website, still dint work. the problem bet 98 and XP was the file system. 98 used FAT32 while XP used NTFS, is there a similar difference bet XP and VISTA??

Does this work with Windows 8? The Iomega Discover Home Version 1.17 cannot find it; I have recently purchased a new computer with the 8 operating system. Thanks for any help!

Vista may require drivers that are not preinstalled. If the drive clearly works on one machine, but not another, its safe to pressume its not the drive. On the VISTA machine, go to the Iomega site and download the driver for vista or usb or whatnot.

At the core, they are both identical. Vista is actually written over the xp core with more emphasis on the GUI. Vista also comes with limited firewire support in addition to 64 bit architecture.

My iomega does not turn on at all. Have played with all the plugs and tried using a different computer. This is the second iomega drive I've had with this problem.

1. you have a bad power adapter or the electronic controller board in the hard drive case has malfunctioned.
2. You should call the manufacturer for a replacement power adapter or go to the local computer store and purchase a new case for the hard drive.

Disk spins ...then I hear a beep...icon does not show up

The hard disk or the adapter case maybe faulty.
To test the hard disk, remove it form the Iomega case and connect it to an USB hard disk adapter and plug it into a computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard disk is OK, then the Iomega adapter case is faulty.
Then you need a new hard drive adapter case, it doesn't need to be an Iomega brand.

Iomega 250 GB external stopped working

This is really not a solution, but you should all try to connect your iomega to a imac, and use the Disk Utility (in Utilities folder), if you have any luck the hard drive will be recognized and you will be able to format it

No Power to External Hard Drive

Do you have access to a multimeter or voltmeter? If you do you can check the voltage coming out of the adapter and make sure it matches what the power adapter says it is. If it doesn't, then it is the power adapter. If it does, then it is the drive or enclosure.
