Question about Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines
I've read various DIY's and threads and my problem is quite different then everything I've read. The issue I have is both the descalling light is flashing with the water low light flashing. The unit was presumed new (came with all packaging). I then filled the water, put the disk inside (barcode on disk is readable and I wiped my finger through the scanner) in the correct way, held down the big circle bottom down for several seconds and its stops flashing with the orange light on. The problem is even after hold down the button for a solid 90 seconds nothing happens. Both of the red lights stopped blinking but are illuminated with the orange light doing nothing. No sounds either. Can anyone fix this? Spent so much time diagnosing it already...
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: standby light is flashing
I had the same problem with my machine and managed to get it working again in a few easy steps. This machine is great but it can be VERY tempermental so here are a few tips:
1.The barcode reader MUST be clean or it will not read what the disc is (It is the little glass screen where you place the disk.) If it is not clean the lights will all flash.
2. The little floaty thing in the water container has to be floating in order to keep the machine running- if it won't float, shake it well to dislodge the air pocket that might be jambing it.
3. If the red stanby light won't go away, it is because the disc you are using is either damaged or leaking and it WON'T go away until you replace the disc...(you might have to do it more then once) if that doesn't work- try hitting the reset button on the back of the machine (the little black switch that has a (- and o) as well as unplugging and plugging the machine back in. Lastly, what worked for me was inserting a new disk and only partially clicking in the disk so the 'heating' light came on- leave it like that for about 10 seconds and then very slowly close the disc completely. Hope this helped!

He has the first part correct, but when you rinse the machine with fresh water the machine needs to quit on its own and you will know this when the descale light is off, but you will have a flashing green light and a steady red light over the water drop. Refill the water tank, the close the steam knob and then open it again. This will clear the red light and then the machine will start heating. IMPORTANT on any automatic machine is when the water tank is off the machine don't do anything with the beans. A chip of bean in the water receptacle can be a big problem for the machine.

Solution: Just refill the water tank with water (no descaling solution) all the way to the "Max Line". Then run the full descaling program again --takes approx. 20 minutes. After the program runs completely you will get the yellow "standby" light on and the red "descaling" light will be off.
Next time you descale, be sure and fill your water tank to the "Max Line" before running the descaling program.
Hint: An incomplete cycle (not full tank) is what makes the red light stay on. In other words, it's staying red to tell you to run a full cycle (beginning with the water tank filled to the "Max Line"). Hope this tip is helpful!

Try cleaning the area where you place the pucks. This area can get clogged with loose grounds and especially milk from cappacino pucks.
