Receiver won't turn on

I came home from vacation to find my receiver will not turn on. I checked the incoming power which was good. I let it sit overnight unplugged, and in the morning it still wont power on. Any idea what the issue could be?

SOURCE: The receiver was on....working properly...and then

There is a good chance you have a faulty capacitor. There are lots electronic devices out there right now that are failing to power up or just shutting down on there own these days. Turns out many manufacturers of electronic boards installed faulty caps in their products.

I hate to say it but that sounds like the problem to me.

Solutions

1. Have it fixed by a professional
2. Open it up, Inspect the power board for bulged/leaking caps. If you find some you know you have found a problem. Replace the board.
3. Replace individual caps that are faulty. This takes a few soldering skills but can save you $$$$$$

Caps are very inexpensive and can be found at your local electronics store or online.

Hope this helps and thanks for using fixya

My RX-V2095 Yamaha receiver won't power up.

Wont power up, or stuck in "protect mode"? Unplug the unit & let it sit for a couple hours, then plug back in & listen for a "click" a turn (power supply relay energizing.) If no lights & no click, the first place to check is the mains fuse. If the unit is under warranty - take to an authorized facility & they will take care of it for you.

I cannot get components to work through sony str-dh540.

two things come to mind
- Low input voltage
- Power supply issues

Low Power
As multiple items are having issues the issue sounds that a wiring issues. Have you tried another receptacle (plug) perhaps another room Try plugging only a light to the plug. Does it flicker or appear dim. A multi meter to check line level and a polarity tester to check that wiring is correct. A good power bar will have a polarity tester built in.

Power Supply.
When you must turn on and off a device before it starts working suggests that components have partially failed. Bad capacitors can exhibit this type of issue.

It is possible that a power issue is damaging your hardware. It is always best to use a good power bar. Passive bar are good for a few years. Active should work well for many years. Balance the cost of a power bar to the value of your equipment.

AVH-x5500bhs Crash?

Remove the car's negative battery terminal and let the car sit like that while you push that reset button again and hold it a few moments. Let it sit maybe 15 mins. Im thinking a static charge has built up and the unit needs to discharge. Reconnect the neg battery terminal and see what happens when you turn the unit on. Cold dry weather can allow static charges to build up.

Won't stay on

You're best bet would be to buy compressed air and blow out all dust and dirt that has made its way inside the receiver. If dust is clogging the fans it will overhead and shut itself off.

While on vacation my daughter was house sitting and my home theater set up stopped working. Specifically, with cable to my cable box and HDMI feed to the Yamaha RX-V465 receiver, I get good HD picture on...

If you suspect a setting was changed why are you tampering with the cables?

Get into the manual and go through every setting. Troubleshooting sections usually help. If it's just the Cable Box audio look at IT. Assign the port. If it's ALL audio start with the test tones.

I have an onkyo HT-R560 receiver that won't turn on. the standby light light up and when you hit the power button you can hear a click-like sound but nothing happens. what should i do to fix my...

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the
speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.
