Question about GE GSS20IEPWW / GSS20IEPCC Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

I have a GE GSS201EPHWW refrigerator that has a relay that will cycle on and off from time to time. When it is doing this, the water dispenser will dispense water as the relay cycles. Do I need to replace the main control board to fix this or what is a suggestion?

SOURCE: Ice and Water not dispensing. Light button not working

http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_1.asp
There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

SOURCE: water does not fill ice tray GE refridgerator

Hi Alice. If I was nearby I would stop by and take a look for you but since we are cyber only I will assist you and yes, you can fix this yourself!

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

SOURCE: Water Dispenser not working

If the ice maker is working, and no water is coming out, the water line may be frozen.  This happened to me yesterday, and I followed the advice on ehow.com.  It worked like a charm! Take a hair dryer, and blow hot air up into the dispenser tube, holding the hair dryer about 8-10 inches away.  After about 5 minutes or so, a tiny chip of ice and a couple of drops may pop out.  Fill up a couple of glasses of water to flush it out, and you should be good!

Not Dispensing water?

I have repaired this problem in two different ways. Unplug the unit. First try removing the dispenser display cover to access the electronics. One at a time clean the terminals of all connectors. Try to see if that has worked. If not, look for a relay that controls that dispenser and replace it. Good Hunting.

GE Profile Performance TPX24SP No ice. Water to fridge but does not seem to get to icemaker. It cycles and I can hear the solinoid but no water flow. Maybe the water line is frozen? How do I...

I had the same problem. The the repair tech found two broken 5/16" plastic tubings on the output side of the ice maker and door water dispenser solenoids. These are located on the Bracket and Valve Assly. where the main water connection is on the rear of the refrigerator behind the cardboard grill. The tubing is placed right next to the hot compressor so they crack over time.

The water supply in the recessed part of your door is frozen. very common with this model. You will need to turn unit off and with freezer door open use hairdryer on the area where water dispenses and on the recessed area as well. This is time consuming but only other remedy is to leave off and door open for 24 hours. hope this helps.

You have a bad main control board ( motherboard ) . Replace this board , and it will fix your problem . You do not have a bad overload . The failure to dispense ice and water , with the lights dimming , is the give away of a bad board .

Water not dispensing

Most likely your water control valve on rear of refrigerator has failed. Do this pour tap water into the ice maker make sure it is on and let the water freeze. If the ice drops and does not refill then the water control valve is the problem. If ice maker does not cycle then it is the ice maker. Find your model number around the door frame and tell me which model GE you have and I will tell you the replacement parts. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Time to unplug the refrigerator. We need to check the compressor, start capacitor and start relay. If you do not unplug until we solve the problem the internal overload inside the compressor will be damaged. I am ready to help you on this just let me know, Sea Breeze
