Fans not working, power supply overheating...

My Pioneer 5030 CMX plasma has been displaying a green hue all along the upper portion of the display. The screen is really warm when this happens. So i did some searching, and I think the issue is the cooling fans are not firing up when needed. In fact the only time they function is for a brief 2 seconds when i shut the monitor off. The problem of the green hue only shows when the outside air temp is hot, which causes the display to run hot. I'm trying to learn my best course of action - is it the fans power supply, the chip/controller then starts/stops the fan, or something else? Thanks Jon

The fan only works for about 1 second, when i shut off the power to the plasma display, it is as if it just got a jump start, then stops. The fan never comes on by itself when you think it should (hot days, long use of the monitor). So i agree it sounds like the sensor switch. Now that you have confirmed what I was thinking all along, i'd like to understand a couple of things: 1) Is this a switch a home customers could locate and replace? 2) Is there a test to determine if it is defective. I seem to recall that this Pioneer has a diagnostic mode, though i don't know how to trigger the display into that mode.

The most likely cause is the fan temp sensor switch, if they work at all then the power supply is ok, look for a thermal sensor in the cabinet, it will be a thermistor with 2 wire leads to it, it will be connected to the fan power supply.

If the sensor is seperate from the power supply it sjhould be easy to spot, u will need to remove the cabinet of the TV to find it, the fans power wires will come from the power supply. U will have to contact the parts manufactiurer to see if the switch is avail, i have no catalogs for parts.

Pioneer pdp-505cmx both red and green lights stay on - no picture - any ideas?

After replacing the power supply board, it is necessary and a must to adjust its Va & Vs voltages. These details will be there on its panel label. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Without adjusting these voltages properly, might make the Plasma Display defective.

The green screen suggests a problem or bad Optical engine. Most Sony sets have a self check for error codes---set off: with remote: Display, 5, vol down, power(hit the power button)

Going to be a bad circuit board and most likely none are available for a set of this age---Average life span on these and all Plasma sets is 3-5 years.

I cant get the fans to turn on!!!!!!!!!!!

Call up the 'Integration Menu" - the fans can be switched between 'auto' and 'full speed'.

To do this switch the display into standby. If the standby light flashes 4 times it is indicating a fault in the Thermal Sensor Assembly which will explain why your fans aren't working. With the display in standby press the menu button and within 3 seconds press the power button. The display will turn on with the integration menu. Select the option tab and scroll down until you see 'fan control' - press 'set' to toggle between 'auto' and 'max'. When you select 'max' the fans will run at full speed within a few seconds. The fans are a bit noisey at full speed so you may want to look into replacing the sensor eventually.

Pioneer pdp 502mx goes to standby no picture after power on

Contact Pioneer at 1-800-421-1404 about getting an in-home power supply replacement. This is a known issue with some plasma displays. Some of you would experience a loud pop and then the power supply fails. You get a red light below the ON button, when you press on, the red light will turn green for a second and then back to red. The plasma display will not turn on after the power supply fails. Call Pioneer at 1-800-421-1404.
