Visit the Sony website. They should have a free PDF of the instructions.

I have a old emerson tv w a video and audio jacks in front and bdp s2100 blueraydisk player cannot get them to connect.

Your Sony BDP-S2100 Blu-ray Disc Player only has an HDMI output because it is intended for HD (720 or 1080) video.

The inputs you are referring to on the front of your Emerson TV are the older RCA-style inputs that can only handle standard definition (480). Specifically, if they are three inputs that are yellow (video) red and white (left and right audio) those are known as Composite RCA.

You will need an "HDMI to Composite RCA" converter box. I did some searching and found this one on Amazon that is intended for specifically what you need.

I can't endorse it or vouch for it but it is a starting point to see if you can find what you need and you may be able to find similar devices elsewhere for less.

Recently the picture on regular channels has stripes running through it but when I watch HD channels, the stripes don't appear. What is wrong?

I don't believe the trouble is with your TV. My guess is that you don't have adequate signal for the Analog channels. Make sure all the connections are secure.
Does this also happen when playing DVDs?

Hi Definition Sources (your Blue Ray Disk Player) and Hi Definition Display device (your LCD TV) interconnect to each other using HDMI cable. You can buy them in your local Electronics store or online at desired lenght.

If you are using the HDMI input, you are using the best hook up that is available.

    Sony surround sound hookup

In short, the answer is: Hook up all three to each other. I have a Samsung DLP HDTV, and I was trying to hook up a Sony DAV-HDX500 home-theater system and a Comcast HD set-top box, but I found that the Sony user guide is helpful only for setting up the speakers. Most of what it had to say about HDMI and getting the TV sound or cable sound to go through the speaker system was wrong (or, at least, it didn't work for me). So, here's what I did. I connected Component video cables (Y/Pb/Pr out) from the Cable box to the TV (Y/Pb/Pr in), audio cables from the Cable box (audio out) to the Sony system ("SAT/Cable" audio in), and an HDMI cable from the Sony system (HDMI out) to the TV (HDMI in). This allows me to 1) watch DVDs with surround sound through the TV's HDMI source (when the "DVD" format is selected on the Sony system), 2) watch cable with surround sound through the TV's Component source (when the "SAT/Cable" format is selected on the Sony system), and 3) watch cable WITHOUT the surround sound, as I did before I ever had the Sony system. One item of note: When watching a non-HD channel with the surrond sound on, the audio is slightly out of synch with the video; thankfully, there's no such problem on HD channels. Anyway, I hope this helps. It drove me crazy for two days straight!
