Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I purchased a used Suburban in which the previous owner installed an Alpine CDM-7857 receiver. Although I do not have the Alpine owner's manual I figured out most the receiver's operations except how to...

According to the manual follow these steps

While the clock is displayed, hold down the clock button for 3 seconds.
Time indicator will blink.
Press the ct button to set the seconds.
Press the H button for the hour.
and M for minutes.

Time indication will stop blinking 5 seconds after the ajustment.
Then the time will automatically be set.

Just in case I will include the link to the manual for other operations.....

The most common reason you would loose the presets is if the yellow wire from the radio is not connected to a constant voltage source. If it is connected to a source that only gets voltage when the key is turned on, you get the problem you are having. That yellow wire is for memory.

If the yellow wire is getting it's constant voltage source, then you have an internal electrical problem that would need troubleshooting by a professional technician. The battery being disconnected and then reconnected should not cause this problem by itself, but it is possible that the radio may have gotten a surge of voltage somehow and caused a failure of some electronic component or maybe caused a circuit trace to burn up.

Since the radio works and the only problem is the memory is not working wold indicate that the yellow wire is connected to the wrong type of voltage source. It is possible that it may be an internal problem of the radio, but the more likely thing is the yellow wire.
