My pioneer deq-9200 equilizer keeps resetting to default settings whenever i start my engine. What's going on here?

The unit only resets when i start the engine, not when i turn off the key or switch the head unit off.The Yellow wire is connected to the 12v constant and the red one is connected to the remote line of the head unit. Is there an internal backup battery that keeps the settings? Could my car battery be too low as it resets when i start?

The EQ has two power wires on the back like a head unit. One is constant power, and the other one is ignition/switched power. This normally happens when the installer takes the switched power and applies it to both power leads going into the EQ or head unit. The EQ needs the constant power line run to a 12V source that never turns off. The constant power line is normally yellow, and the switched power line is normally red.

Where is the constant power for the EQ coming from? Did you run a separate wire for 12V? or did you steal it from some other device? No, there's no battery in the EQ for settings, it just relies on the 12V constant. My guess is that when you start your engine, your starter/ignition system steals too much voltage from your EQ and causes the EQ to think it's lost power for a split second. Here's a test - have your head unit and EQ running in accessory mode for a short while, then start the engine but watch the face of the EQ. If the EQ shuts off and goes black - it's a low voltage problem. Your battery may not be holding enough of a charge to maintain the EQ and start the engine. You can try running a direct line to the EQ (with a small fuse of course) and see if that helps. Next step is to get a new (and maybe bigger) battery.

The equalizer has a 3 day backup "battery" in the brain of the unit. It's actually a 5.2v capacitor (.22F) that looks like a watch cell battery. You can order them on digikey, and they have the pos and neg connector already attached. A little fine soldering and it's restored to maintain the memory for the amount of time specified.
As I don't have the exact part number, I wouldn't call it an answer. However, knowing the above, you would need to pull the brain out, open it, and correctly identify the piece anyway.
This worked for me.

Do you have the yellow wire going to a constant 12v power source? The yellow wire controls the memory of the radio and needs to have 12v going to it at all times, even when the key is taken out of the ignition.

Check the capacitors near the leak source if they vent ie swell on top then it is possible they have split causing fluid leakage they will not be far from leak on pcb replace the ones that look swelled
