Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I had turn the water off to the freezer section because water kept running out of the water dispenser switch.  I love the ice maker but the water dispenser dosen't matter.  I had turn the water off in the back of the refrigerator to stop the water from running.

THe problem may be in the water valve for the water despenser,

you could try disconnecting the 2 wires on top of the water despenser side of the valve and see if that will stop it. IF not the valve may need replaceing, may be leaking thu water vavle when closed

Water dosent come out of door

I am going to assume you have water to the ice maker and the unit is functions normally. Under the freezer door is a water tubing that runs from the chilled water tank in the refer section to the freezer door, what I would like you to do is disconnect this tubing and depress the water dispenser to dispense water. If everything is working properly, you should get water out of that tube on your right, that would your problem is in the freezer door. If no water comes out, what is the temperature of the refer section? If too cold you could have froze the water tank, has happened. Do this test and get back to me with your results. I need to see where the lose of water flow started. Also i seek to rule out a dispenser issue at the same time.
Good Luck

Do i have to hook up my refrigerater to the sink to get water an ice

Yes you have to connect the water pipe from sink to refrigerator back.hen turn ON the water valve o run the water from fridge to freezer section.Form freezer section to water inlet valve at the back of ice maker. Then only ice maker and water dispenser will function.Other wise only freezer and fridge will work.-------------- If you dont have water tube and water valve then You can get required parts from or from online sears part site. If you are not aware of how exactly to set and connect water valve and water tube then local plumber or fridge repair technician can do it for you.Its not at all hard job and can be easily done.It will take near to 15 minutes to connect all parts.------------- Thank you.

Water dispenser keeps freezing GE Refrigerator

If this is a newer model GE side by side refrigerator, this is not uncommon. what you can do to check to see what is going wrong, remove the toe plate at the bottom front of the unit. Under the freezer door, you will see a white plastic water line, with an inline connector about 4-5" from where the line comes out the bottom of the door. this is normally a blue push-in type connector. On this connector, you will see two white sleeves on either side, push in on this sleeve while pulling the corresponding water line section out of the connector, if you squeeze the sleeve enough, the water line will slip right out. Place a towel on the floor, make sure both ends are on top of towel. Now, breifly actuate your water dispenser trigger, see if water comes out the exposed water line. If water comes out, your entire water dispenser system is OK, but, the water line in the freezer door is frozen, in which case the only way to melt it, is to turn the unit off, open the freezer door, and blow a fan for a few hours, to melt the ice INSIDE the door. You could also buy a new door, but that is very costly.
If no water comes out the exposed water line, then either your water filter is clogged, or you have a bad water valve solenoid

ZFSB26DRESS water runs warm and freezer not staying cold.

It sounds like the condenser coils , the coils by the compressor , need cleaned badly . This (and the compressor cooling fan) , can cause the compressor to cut off on overload (due to the heat) , thereby not circulation refrigerant thru out the freezer coils .
The water line goes from inside the freezer door ( cold ) , under the refrig ( warm ) , then to the inside refrig water reservoir ( cold ) . After that , you should get cold water , until the reservoir is drained of cold water .

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .

Okay. My appliance is around four years old. The first time the water quit working was about a year ago (ice cubes / dispenser was fine). I just let it go and didn't worry about it. One day months later, I found it functional again. That lasted about a month or two, then it recently quit again. Tonight, I located the water supply line coupling under the unit on the left side under the freezer door, about five inches from the hinge. I separated the coupling (push lock type) and pressed the water dispenser lever. After a few seconds, the water flowed out just fine. I re-attached the coupling, turned the freezer coldness selector to 0 (off) opened the freezer door and fetched my wife's blow dryer. I ran the dryer along the inside of the freezer door near the black door seal frrom the hinge up to the water/ice dispencer compartment. I also ran it all along the back of the dispenseer compartment to the handle side of the door as I am unsure of where the water line runs. After about ten minutes of this, I attempted to dispense water with no luck. I continued with the blow dryer until the plastic and even the door seal were very warm to the touch. I closed the door and attempted to dispense water once again, and this time it worked. I turned the coldness selector back on. This time I set the freezer to 3 and the fridge to 7. I ran several cups of water through the dispenser since it's been sitting in the line for a while before drinking any. As for the "reservoir," I don't where or if one exists, but heating up the inside of the door from hinge to dispenser worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone!

Water running down door & dispenser light always on......

If you trace up from the water leak it must have an origin. If it starts high level I would suspect the door not sealing allowing warm air to be chilled down cold enough to condense. If it starts around the water or ice dispenser you may have a bed connection or break in the supply lines. I am assuming this is on the freezer section. It would also account for the light as there are normally door switches for the light and fan. If you open the door on the freezer section and push on the switches you should see the light go on and off. Hope this helps, water leaks are always a pain even for engineers.

Water dispenser won't turn off

Stix: Check behind the dispenser handle the switch or button which is responsible to activate the mechanism of water dispensing. If the switch or button is covered with a reubber you must remove the rubber cap or whatever cover it has. If you have mineral oil or somekind of greasy stuff (vaseline or something similar) lubricate the switch or button. Open the freezer door and activate and deactivate the dispenser several times to lubricate the whole mechanism. SithPitt
