Question about Televison & Video

Thanks for your suggested solution to my problem with the Sony 42B1 plasma. "Sony Plasma 42B1 - No picture or menu appears on screen - completely blank. The power switch does light though. I need to know which board may be the problem as I have another plasma of the same model that I could swap boards." I wish to clarify that the power light on the switch does light up when turned on but no picture appears on the screen. Does this still relate to being the power supply board at fault? Regards Glen

Could you confirm which board is the main board as there are several boards. Perhaps a diagram?

Please clarify which is the main board. As there appears to be several boards. I understand the centre board is the power supply

Hi,
If it's an LCD, take a close look at the screen with a Flashlight and see if you can see some sort of picture (Almost like a ghost of an image). If this is the case, the backlight has failed.

If it's a plasma unit, you're probably looking at a power supply issue to the panel

Dear Sir

The power supply is the board the power plugs into, usually all the other board plug on to the power supply, the best is to check your power wire and trace it to the circuit Board, near where it plugs in the-res also a fuse visible and 1 or to big Capacitors.

As you clarified that the tv power light switches ON.its not a problem on power supply.you will have to replace and swap the main board for the picture problem..but be sure to check all the connections after swapping the board.
thanks.please do not forget to accept the solution.keep updated.

Hi,

There are a number reasons why this might happen:
  • The backlight has gone (Find a dark place and shine a torch into the screen and see if you can see an image in the background, if you see an image then the backlight has gone) - Needs a new backlight (Engineer to remove and fit) or have a new panel fitted.
  • The panel has died - Need a new panel
  • A cable has worked itself loose or is broken
  • The inverter has gone - Need new inverter
  • The driver board is faulty
Thanks

Sony pfm 42b1 negative picture

Hi,

I have a Sony PFM-42v1 and it does the same thing, look in your tv menu for picture inversion, usually under screen saver. What it actually does is reduce the chance of screen burnin. By reversing the image it sort of resets the hot areas, brightest colours and the cooler areas being dark colours, switches them around ( negative ). This cools the hot spots and heats up the cold spots.

There should be a option to turn it off, mine and I guess yours as a default is ON, mine has the ON, timer and OFF options.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you need more info.

Sony PFM-42B1 with black bar in 720p

yes, stop using a plasma TV as a computer monitor. Using the TV this way is an invitation to phosphur burn which these are very prone to. The issue you describe is due to the limitations of the TVs scaler circuit to properly center the image in 720P.
