Blurry Smart TV

I recently just bought this TV at Best Buy. I was on my computer and when i went to watch some TV I saw that the antenna in cable was unplugged. So I plugged it back in and the screen was all hazy. The text on the guide was really blurry and had ghost effects. The definition of the menu in the smart hub, menus not including the cable, were all clear and high definition. Please help I don't wan't anything happening to this TV because I spent a fortune on this.

SOURCE: 52 in Sansung lcd tv , Model # LN52850 blurry

Basically, blurry pictures is a fundamental mismatch between the resolution capability of your TV and the resolution of the analog signal. The standard, analog signal is a low definition, 480i signal with a resolution of approximately 640 x 480. In most cases, your LCD TV is a high definition TV with a resolution capability of 1366 x 768, 1440 x 900, or 1920 x 1080. It is this mismatch between the standard signal resolution and the TV resolution that causes the picture to be stretched and scaled, blurring the image.

Fixing the Problem

There is no way to fix this mismatch in resolution besides switching to an HD signal. There are, however, three ways you may be able to minimize the blurriness problem:

* Reducing the picture size to 4:3
* Using the Sharpness function
* If you are using a cable box or some other external device, changing the connections

All three are described below.
Reducing the Picture Size to 4:3

If you are watching an analog channel or transmission, and the picture is fuzzy, you may be able to clear up the picture by reducing the size of the picture to 4:3, the native size of analog TV pictures.

To change the picture size to 4:3, press the P.Size button on your remote until 4:3 appears on the screen. The 4:3 picture has black or grey borders on the left and right.
Using the Sharpness Function

If the picture on your LCD TV is blurry, you may be able to clear it up with the Sharpness function. To use the Sharpness function on most Samsung LCD TVs, follow these steps:

1. Turn on your TV.
2. Press the MENU button on your remote. [The Main menu appears]
3. Press the Up or Down arrow button on your remote to select Picture, and then press the ENTER button. [The selection bar moves into the Picture menu]
4. Use the Up or Down button on your remote to select Sharpness.

Note: On some model LCD TVs, you use the Enter button to select Sharpness.

6. Use the Right arrow button on your remote to increase the sharpness.
7. Press the EXIT button to exit.

If You Are Using A Cable Box Or Other External Device

If you are using a cable box or other external device confirm that you are connected with Component (Pb, Pr, and Y) or HDMI connections.

Lastly, your connection cable might be failing and maybe that's the blurry picture displays at first, then goes back to normal later. So make sure cable connections to the TV are firm.

I hope you understand the above.

Good luck.

Need a smart antenna to go with the Digital TV converter box

First, you don't need a Smart Antenna, the manual is simply stating that your converter will use one if you have it. Any standard antenna will work, so there is no need for a coupon to pay for a new one, whether indoor or outdoor depending on your location and distance from each channel transmission tower. Since you don't give details of what antenna you are using, I will assume you have rabbit ears for each converter. Rabbit ears are notorious for poor reception and any metal or persons nearby will change the reception quality. I would recommend a roof mounted external antenna with splitters for the 3 converters if you have the option. If not, use an amplified internal antenna and mount it closest to the channel towers you will watch most and as high as possible. If you can find a smart antenna, which is an amplified indoor/outdoor antenna with a control cable for changing the direction of reception, for a decent price, you can use that but keep in mind that to use the control feature you will need one for each converter. Also, check for information on digital channels in your area and their direction and distance. will also tell you if any digital channel in your area uses VHF frequencies. If they don't then a UHF only antenna will work fine.

My new tv only gets some channels and not others

Have you tried an amplified antenna? It's basically a regular antenna but includes an amplifier to help bring in weak stations. An out door antenna may also help. I live about 3 miles from a TV station and can't pick them up due to the insanely old apartment I live in.
