You could reset the computer, but then it has to go through a drive cycle to adjust all the settings. It should idle high when first started and drop down after 5-10 seconds or so. The computer will adjust it after a few trips, but should be fine.

SOURCE: 1990 dodge d150 360 cuts out when i accelerate checked codes, pulled 24,37,22,14. i replaced map sensor, throttle sensor, coolant sensor, and still having same problem erased codes and now still pulli

Code 37 (Part Throttle Unlock (PTU) solenoid circuit is open or shorted)

This is detected when the ECU doesn't sense near 0vdc or 12vdc at the relay when the solenoid is turned on or off. When code 37 is thrown the power limited light will not be lit and the system will not enter limp mode. With manual ****** it can throw this code for no apparent reason.
Possible Reasons for Fault Code 37
Check the wiring and connections from the logic module to the solenoid. Clean and re-grease the connectors with Dielectric Grease.

The solenoid is located in the right, front fender next to one to three other solenoids. If I remember right it is nothing more than a simple plunger activated by an electromagnet type device. It redirects air from one port through another or to another port. I don't know about finding a new one if you need it but they are built well and you could find one at pull a apart. You can also spray carb/throttle body cleaner through it and clear any clogs that might be in it.

Coolant boiling in resevoir.

It can be faulty coolant temperature sensor. Its not sensing exact coolant heat temperature so its overheating then required level.

-----------

Get the coolant pressure tested, its definitely leaking coolant. You will need to get the coolant running line.

Pressure test will help you to know from where exactly coolant/refrigerant is getting leaked.

Code 1 senser P0118 on a 2004 V.W beetle dicesel

P0118 for Volkswagen - (ECT) Engine Colant Temperature Circuit High

Symptoms:- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes:
(Inspect the following... Repair/Replace if necessary)
- Low engine coolant level
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
- Faulty engine coolant thermostat

P0118 VOLKSWAGEN Description: The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is used to detect the engine coolant temperature. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM). The modified signal returns to the (ECM) as the engine coolant temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases.
When is the code detected?:When an excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance.

P0118

As with all engine codes there is no one solution fits all, here is the info on the code from the diagnostic material.

P0128 code on 2006 ford escape, solutions?

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0128 has a generic description of "Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature".

The Poertrain Control Module (PCM) checks the coolant temperature at startup. It then calculates the period of time that it should take for the engine to reach operating temperature (or thermostat regulated temperature). After the calculated period of time, the PCM again checks the coolant temperature. If it has not reached operating temperature, a code P0128 flag is set in mode 6.

If the engine still has not reached operating temperature after 5 more minutes of continuous engine operation, code P0128 is set in continuous memory and the Check Engine (or Malfunction Indicator Light "MIL" is turned on.

Possible causes:

> A stuck-open engine coolant thermostat (MOST common)
> A skewed Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) or Cylinder Head Temperature(CHT) sensor (working, but not reading correct temperature)
> Low engine coolant level (causing the sensor to not read correctly)

First, the engine coolant (antifreeze) level should be checked. If it is low, it is recommended to perform a cooling system pressure test to find out WHY.

Then, the actual engine temperature should be measured with an infrared thermometer near the ECT or CHT. The reading from the thermometer should be checked against the live sensor data with a scan tool. (PLease note that MOST generic OBD code readers CANNOT perform this function.)

If the reading from the thermometer and the sensor data is within 10 degrees F of each other, replace the thermostat. Otherwise, the sensor circuit should be checked for high resistance (loose or corroded connector, damagd wire, etc.). If no high resistance is measured in the rest of the circuit, the sensor should be replaced.

I have a petrol 2.6 efi 1989 jackaroo and i can not find the temp sender, can some one help please

Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor OPERATION The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is mounted in the intake manifold and sends engine temperature information to the ECM. The ECM supplies 5 volts to the coolant temperature sensor circuit. The sensor is a thermistor which changes internal resistance as temperature changes. When the sensor is cold (internal resistance high), the ECM monitors a high signal voltage which it interprets as a cold engine. As the sensor warms (internal resistance low), the ECM monitors a low signal voltage which it interprets as warm engine.

Radiator fan operates only sometimes and the temperature is high why?

The coolant temperature sensor, wiring and contacts are in question.

Clean the contacts and inspect the wire for damage.

Follow the wire all the way to the firewall.

===

The coolant temp sensor is cheap and if it's the stock sensor since 1996 then you should replace it.

===

Coolant flush should be perform every two years of 24,000 miles.

I have a code P0128, what is my problem is this in the cooling system?

This code is for your Coolant Thermostat - It's detected that the Coolant Temperature is below the Thermostat Regulating Temperature

This code may mean one or more of the following has occurred:
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Leaking or stuck open thermostat
  • Cooling fan running too much
  • Faulty coolant temperature sensor (ECT)
  • Faulty intake air temperature sensor (IAT)
Check the following to see if it resolves your problem:
  • verify coolant strength and level
  • verify cooling fan operation and replace if necessary
  • verify ECT sensor operation and replace if necessary
  • verify IAT sensor operation and replace if necessary
  • if all above checks out, replace the thermostat

99 honda odyssey coolant fans turn too late

You might need a new ECT - engine coolant temperature sensor. If it's not reading the correct coolant temperature it's not going to tell the fan to turn on when it should.

Is the check engine light illuminated? I'd bet the ECT needs replacement.
