How do I remove winder from a Seiko Kinetic. It's about 10 years old and has 4 screws on the face body to open it. There is a code 5M42-0E39 on the base. The base has a black colour ss while the face body is brushed ss.

You are very brave to attempt to remove the rotor and replace the capacitor yourself. I have done many of these and good luck on getting the insulator properly located and alligned without the right tools and some form of magnfication.

My kenetic battery ( i think) operated watch ,N0, on the back plate-

First, does it say "Kinetic" on the face of the watch? If not, it is not a Seiko Kinetic. (You did not mention if it was a Kinetic or not.)

Second, the Serial number is not like any Seiko Kinetic I know, which is 2 4 digit numbers.

Third: The number you gave itself may indicate the type of button battery you need.

Good luck.

10 year old Seiko Kinetic (model5M62-0B00) blue face. Last week stopped and after some shaking started again but seconds moved in 2 sec intervals for a few hours. Went OK for a week and again last night...

After 10 years it will be likely that the Kinetic capacitor will need upgrading. Your watch is designed to tick in two second intervals to tell you the power is very low. The power button will work again when it has some power to show. Yorkshire Watches www,yorkshirewatches.co.uk can do the upgrade for you if your in the UK. Give them a ring.

I have purchased a new Seiko kinetic SUN007 mens watch. After hours of swinging back & forth to charge the watch, the 'second' hand still moves in two-second increments. (After charging via movement,...

I have a Seiko kinetic watch and it has behaved perfectly for over two years and therefore I think that yours is faulty.

I suggest you send it to Seiko to have it repaired or replaced under warranty.

Can be fixed in less than one week and cost is less than $80. See web site for Timelywatch repar.com. They guarantee their work. And yes, the old capacitors are only good for 3-4 years. All replacements are now with a much better, long lasting Lithium Ion battery.

Crown will not push back in completely, it stays out in the first pull position

Sounds like the setting lever has disengaged from the stem detent. If you can remove the back off the case you may be able to reengage it. Look for either a small silver coloured pin or screw adjacent to the winding stem. If it's a pin use a sharpened match stick or similar and depress while pressing crown back in. If it's a screw - back the screw off about 1 1/2 to 2 turns, press crown back in and tighten screw again. Check operation of winder in all positions before replacing case back.

After hours of winding, does not keep charge,

As you probably have found out by now, the capacitors that came with the Seiko watches usually only last about 3-4 years. Then they need to have a new Lithium Ion battery installed in place of the capacitor. Please get a qualified person to do this for you. I do this every day. Ron at timelywatchrepair.com
