Question about Hitachi 50UX57B 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

My picture on my Hitachi 51F710A has a very strong red/pink tone over the entire screen but is slightly worse on the left had side. I've tried all the adjustments on the menu including the magic focus but can't rectify it. Even resetting the factory settings doesn't help. Any help very much apprecieted. Thanks, Jim

Thanks for getting back to me. However, the picture is quite clear it is just very red/pink overall and I can't adjust the picture color to reduce the redness using any of the controls.

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Its possible that the CRT fluid is cloudy in the blue and green crt. This will cause the red to ovpower the screen. Do a search for CRT fluid problems on google.

The problem is a very easy fix. Unplug the tv and remove the front speaker cover and then the rectangle cover piece of wood held by 4 screws.

Behind this will be 6 adjustable knobs which can be turned with a screwdriver. Look close and ignore the 3 that say focus and see the other 3 that say R, G, B. These are the advanced settings for your red green and blue color lamp settings.

Take a sharpie marker and mark ALL 6 settings in case you need to move any back.

Go ahead and plug the TV back in, turn the tv on and very carefully insert an insulated screwdriver to turn the red one first. Be very careful NOT to over turn and only make hair movements. It won't take much. If not the red adjustment, try the green and then blue if needed. You will only most likely need to adjust the red one back though.

This TV does not have a convergence problem. It's likely just the advanced knob settings behind the front speaker cover.

I turned my hitachi tv on and i have no sound or picture what can i do ?

Are you getting the red led light? If not, please check the power outlet for any loose contacts. Try the TV on some other power outlet. If the TV does not work still, cool it off for 48 hours, after removing the plug and retry.

What causes my picture to go pink all of the sudden ?

Examine the screen with set on and color set to zero--stand back and look= is screen pink to red color?

If so it may be a common issue on this Hitachi.

Usually it is an adjustment inside the set of the red screen control needing to be turned just slightly down---these are known for the red control "drifting" just slightly from time to time--answer is based on model number indicated here.

51F59A red screen all the time

1. entire grill below front screen must come off (usually held in place by screws in back on either side.)

2. locate and remove inspection plate dead center behind it.

3. Locate small black plastic block with 6 black controls built in; three (look carefully) left to right are focus--DO NOT TOUCH THOSE.

The other three are Screens and will be marked with tiny letters r g b (red, green, blue) and green is always middle.

Locate the red screen (not FOCUS).

With set on adjust red down just slightly(usually less than 1/8 turn.

Since the set will be on TAKE CARE NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE SET WHEN YOU DO THIS.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ASK BEFORE YOU TRY THIS.

My hitachi 43fdx20b has a pink tint to it. I have noticed that if i move the tint slider one way or the other it will turn the screen green, but now it doesn't. Does this have something to do with my...

My 43fdx20b had a pink tint to it also. The picture was clear otherwise. I found, on mine, I needed to adjust the Red Screen control. It was located behind the front panel. I removed the two screws on either side of the front panel and was able to remove the panel. Then I adjusted the Red Screen control. I found that if I tuned in an old Black and white movie I could adjust the color fairly accurately. Good Luck.

Red band on flesh tones (50V500)

This is the first sign of a failing Red Picture Tube. Tubes will blur to the right when they get older. You can try to turn the screen control for the red gun down so the blur goes away. But eventually it will get worse.
