Question about HP Compaq Presario M2010US Notebook
This machine has 2 banks and everyone says the machine will run 1gb.. I install the proper ddr-sodimms 2 x 512 and it won't boot. I remove 1 stick and it boots fine. I look in the bios and it's like a 3 page bios, the only entry concerning ram is on the first page - it's a hard-coded entry stating MEMORY = 480mb - there's no way to adjust the amount of installed ram in the bios.. I flashed the bios to the latest ver and the song remains the same. Initially the machine had 2 x 256. I retried this combination and it works fine. I tried 1 x 512 plus 1 x 256 and no boot. So I believe I've tried all combinations and ruled out a faulty slot.. Prior to ordering the memory I ran the crucial scanner .exe on it and crucial said go for 2 x 512.. Is there something I'm overlooking here?
Compaq laptop have been known to be fussy with RAM, especially if you are mixing different brands/makes of RAM modules.
Try each RAM module one at a time to see if they work. Put these aside and when you have tested them all, then pair them up to see if they will work together. Try and use the same speed, brand and RAM size.
