I'm not familiar with the tv set, however here are some things to try.
It's possible that the tv powers up in stand-by mode, so you'll need to find a way to turn it on completely. See if there are channel +/- buttons on the tv and try them.
If the remote might be necessary, try to see if you have friends/family with a universal remote control, such as a Logitech Harmony, to lend to you for testing. This way you can avoid spending money for nothing on a remote.
Googling on this brand and model gives a lot of negativity though: a lot of problems posting, but no support or even an online manual. Personally I've never heard of Digistar. It might've been a bad investment.
Turn on your Toshiba TV. Press the TV button on your Sky remote control. Hold the Select and RED buttons for several seconds until the LED blinks twice then release. Press the TV button again Enter the 4 digit brand code: 0156 - the LED will blink twice Point the remote at the TV and press the Stand by button. If the television goes into Stand By press the SELECT button to store this code. If the TV does not go in to Stand by mode, press the TV button and repeat from step 6
Make sure the AC cord is not loose or disconnected. Check to ensure the cord is firmly plugged into the outlet at one end, and firmly connected to your television at the other end. The AC cord connects to the television about midway across the back of the set, near the bottom of the back panel. The hole for the AC connection is shaped like a figure eight. Try powering up the TV with the cords firmly connected.
Check the "Main Power" to ensure it is on. Locate the button on the top of the television among the "Volume" and "Channel" buttons. Press the button to switch the television on. If the "Main Power" button is off the remote will not turn on the television. Wait to see if pressing "Main Power" will activate the TV.
Press "TV Power" on the remote control to power up the TV from stand-by mode. If the power light on the front of the television glows red when you press "TV Power" on the remote, press the "Main Power" button on top of the television to remove the TV from stand-by. If the TV is accidentally in stand-by mode it may not come on when pressing certain buttons.
Check the circuit board. If your set still won't turn on and you hear a clicking noise when you plug it in, you most likely have a defective circuit board.
Is it the original remote for this TV? Testing remote control: The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera’s Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera’s screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals. I think I have an answer. This comes from someone from the Geek Squad. She said that somehow the TV was turned off at the TV and not the remote and that has reset the system . Try pushing the "STAND BY' button and everything should work as normal. I will find out for myself in the morning. Good luck to us both !
Try with the philips this method:
Manually turn on the tv or the device to be controlled.
Push and hold the code search button until the red lights stand. Now release the button push and release the tv button, then you got to push and release the on off button until the device turn off stop push and release the enter button.
You might need to push the on off button 1 to 150 times.
Turn on the TV, and the Direct TV receiver, then press MENU on the remote, go to the bottom and select PARENTAL, FAVs and SET UP(press the select button in the remote), then go to SET UP and press select, then go to REMOTE, there you will see all the steps to program your Direct TV remote not only for the tv, the dvd player and the home theater as well. Also you will see ALL the codes for a lot of brands of devices including your TV brand. NOTE: don't go to option on the remote that says "RF/IR", you don't need to adjust that.
