Yes because all the drivers won't be recognized. Here is the page for your laptop courtesy of toshiba:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=1852724&rpn=PSAFGU&modelFilter=A215-S7422&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

Click on the Downloads section and choose Windows Vista as your operating system. Go into your device manager and whatever has a yellow question mark next to it is what you download from the toshiba download page for your laptop.

Can i put a hdd from a aspire 5610 in to a5580

1) Acer Aspire 5610 series Notebook PC, uses a standard sized
SATA laptop harddrive.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Aspire-5610-SATA-Hard-Drive-Caddy-w-Screws-/380170405559

[ Standard size laptop harddrive; 2.5 inches across in width. ( 2 and a half inches, or 63.5mm ]

2) Acer Aspire 5580 uses an IDE (PATA) harddrive, that is standard laptop size.

http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/ram.cfm//memory/a/Acer/AcerAspire-Notebook-Series/Aspire5580Notebook/80GB-Notebook-Hard-Drive-for-the-Acer-Aspire-5580-Notebook.html

[ Scroll down to the subheading - Interface: ATA-100 ]

It isn't just the harddrive caddy that is different.

The two technologies are different, IDE (PATA) and SATA, therefore the interface is also.

[ Interface:
In this example I am referring to the pin connector, the harddrive plugs into ]

Parallel ATA,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA#IDE_and_ATA-1

Serial ATA,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

Adapter for the SATA harddrive (5610) to the IDE (PATA ) interface in the 5580 laptop?
Won't work.

1) The technologies are different.
2) There is a Chipset, or more than one, for this bus controller. The 5580 doesn't have a SATA version.

( Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit )

This would make one think, "Hey, I'll just buy an IDE (PATA) 2.5 harddrive."

Nope.

Once Windows Vista is installed it is a 'Bear' to write XP over it.
There is a Correct procedure. This is left to an experienced person.
(Even an experienced tech may have problems)

Also, IF you do get XP to write over Vista, you may be required to Activate again. (Not register, activate)

To explain further;
When Windows is installed on a computer, hash values are assigned to certain major hardware components.

Some examples may be the Processor, Motherboard, Harddrive, and graphics chipset.

More specifically for the Motherboard, it is the motherboard chipset, and the BIOS program. (Version and date)

Change any two of these hardware components, and Windows may want to be activated again.

Suggest new IDE (PATA) harddrive for the 5580, and use the Restoration Disk.

Don't have one?
Computer manufacturers stopped including a Restoration CD Disk.
(I do believe they have started again, though)

Many users felt uncomfortable trying to repair their computer, took it to a shop, and never bothered using the disk.
Many lost the disk.

Let's say the disk cost around $1.
Take that times 50,000 computers or so. The computer manufacturer is saving money, not including a disk the majority, seems to not want to use.

The computer manufacturers started including a restoration partition, on the harddrive. (That's nice unless you have graphics problems, and can't see what is going on)

When the computer is new, and the owner starts the computer for the first time, there is a pop up asking if you wish to make a Backup.
THIS, is your Restoration Disk.

The new owner is ONLY asked ONE time. If the owner clicks on 'Never show this again', the opportunity is GONE.

What to do?
New IDE (PATA) harddrive, see what it costs a shop to put Vista (Same version) on it.

OR,
Buy a new Vista, or Windows 7 genuine copy, and install it.
HOWEVER, before trying to install Win7, make SURE there are drivers for Win7 available.

If not, DO NOT install Win7.

(Microsoft makes ONE master disk of an Operating System.
{ And version } From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer )

Summary:
1) New IDE (PATA) harddrive
2) Have Vista installed, or see if drivers are available, and install Win7.

For clarification on anything I have stated, or additional questions, please post in a Comment.

joecoolvette

My friend install my windows and changed my harddrive now i have 2 hard drive (dual) how to change it to one again

Those are partitions, you don't have two hard drives. And it's better this way. For example, if Windows crashes, you won't lose the entire contents of your laptop. If you put your music/movies/pictures to the other partition they will be safe.

My Dell Vostro 1500 does not start. It is Vista Home. So, I am trying to repair it with the installation disk. However, the installation stuck after the "Windows is loading files...." bar completes....

For that you need to fix bad sectors on harddrive.
Boot computer with vista disk then enter in recovery console mode.
Then type in prompt "chkdsk /r" without "" then press enter then it fix and recovers errors on harddrive.
Then again choose repair option.
There is not harddrive hardware issue but there issue of boot sector virus and bad sectors of harddrive.
So if you delete all partition and create partition again and install fresh copy of vista then you can do it.Try repartitioning 4 to 5 times then you can get vista again.
But if there is important data on harddrive then enter in recovery console mode and run "chkdsk /r" without "" then try.
This problem is not of your harddrive you can fix it if you repartition and reformating the harddrive 4 to 5 times.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Hard drive crash, not usable at all; downloaded xp drivers and computer drivers but cannot get them installed. Hard drive not recognized.

When you install a new harddrive, it has no Operating System on it.
Windows XP and Windows Vista, are examples of an Operating System.

Each laptop manufacturer, has their own system of changing a laptop harddrive. Some allow you to press a key or two, to put the laptop in a state where it will save the basic Operating System files, and when you install the new harddrive, it will transfer them over to it.

Some laptop manufacturers do have this option.

You either have to take the harddrive out, install it into an external enclosure for a harddrive, (Uses a USB cable) Then attach the external enclosure via the USB cable, to another computer, and use a 'mirror' imaging program to save the Operating System to that computer.

Then the new harddrive is installed in that external enclosure, and the Operating System is 'mirrored' over to it.

Just information for you, as you cannot do this now with a crashed harddrive.
Your option now, is to buy a genuine copy of the Operating System you had on the laptop, and install it.
Not what you wanted to hear, huh?

You need to buy whatever version of Windows XP it had, (WinXP Home or WinXP Pro), or Windows Vista.
If it was Windows Vista, I suggest getting at least the Windows Vista Home Premium version.

I personally prefer Xp over Vista.
Tigerdirect.com, and Newegg.com, have these.
Look for Software>Operating Systems.

OR, you can simply put Ubuntu Linux on it for free.

How to make Vista to recognize my old Hard drive

There are normally only two ways to get vista to recognise large drives and that is to format it within windows by way of right click my computer then click manage and then highlight your harddrive right click and select format. The other way is if your drive isnt being recognised because of the bios and needs updating, as most bios chips did when upgrading to vista.
