Flasher switch keeps clicking after the switch is turned off

I replaced the flasher switch but the flasher relay keeps clicking fast when the switch is turned off from either the 4-ways or the directional switch. The lights are not flashing but the relay is clicking away. It also comes on by itself without touching anything. No lights just clicking! This was also what was going on with the old switch beside the intermittent lights working.
I have the grand am se2.
thanks

The directional switch inside the column had dirty grease across all the contacts. The metallic dirt came from years of use. Cleaned out dirty grease and put in new di-electric grease. Been fine ever since

How can I fix both turn signals flashing very fast (looks on all the time when selected on) on my '91 Toyota camry?

this is usually a sign that the flasher relay needs replacing, these are usually located behind the drivers kick panel , you can locate it whilst the flashers are turned on , just feel which relay is clicking

Turn signals and Hazard no longer work

Fast clicking is caused by a higher than normal current being applied. Normally a short or a aftermarket relay that requires less current to switch. Sounds like the entire multifunction switch is bad.

Cant find the turn signal relay switch on a 87 buick somerset

It should be up under the dash, usually close around the steering column. The turn signal flasher and the hazard flasher may look the same. If you turn on the hazard lights, you should be able to locate that flasher-it will be clicking, and if you hold a finger lightly on it, you can feel it working. That may help you find the turn signal flasher-often they are close together.

Turn signal flasher relay

If your relay switch is working fine and the ground wires are good, I could replace the flasher device (isn't expensire replacement) and test again, if the fault come on again, the multifunction switch is go to bad.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Hi I have a problem with my 1998 4 Dr Blazer V6 Automatic. The turn signal flasher will not stop flashing. I replace the flasher relay and the problem got better but it flashing intermittently. You can...

You'll need to replace the turn signal multi-function switch. It is grounding the white feed wire from the flasher when it is not supposed to. This is a really common problem with these. I have heard of people cleaning the switches with electrical cleaner and having that work as well.

I have a honda accord 92 my turning signal it keeps clicking eventhough im not making a turn and its cliking fast i checked the fuse and there're ok... `do you think what the problem might be???

Since they are still clicking, the flasher unit is probably OK which narrows the problem to either a relay with welded contacts (the cover for them should have a diagram showing which one) or the switch assembly at the steering column has disintegrated.

Turn signal is constantly clicking without turn signals on. Sometimes fast sometimes slow, just on it's own it starts clicking

It's more than likely to be the multifunction switch , the contacts get dirty and cause the flasher to continue to click . The flasher and hazard switch are one unit behind the dash , that's why you hear the sound from there.

The next step would be cleaning your multifunction switch. Clicking it into place wears away at it, leaving metal shavings in the grease surrounding parts. When enough metal accumulates, it likes to short and constantly complete the circuit.

Good luck and keep me posted, this was a recall and the fix was to clean the grease used, and or replace the unit.

Hazard light switch clicks all the time very fast?

You need to replace the flasher relay. I am not familiar with the Saturn Vue, but the flasher unit is usually located either under the dash adjacent to the steering column or fuse block. I would look under the dash while the flashers are on. If the relay is bad you should be able to locate it by the clicking sound that it will be making. A replacement unit can be purchased at an autoparts store. Take the old one with you for reference. Hope this helped and best wishes.
