LCD Screen goes blank after opening up

The LCD screen flickers and goes blank when extended away from the camcorder.  The viewfinder works with the screen closed, and all other functions seem to work fine.  I am hoping that it may be easily fixed, as we like the unit.

I am having the same problem with our Panasonic NV GS75 LCD screen.

When i open it, it stays black but the viewfinder works. WHY WONT THEY BUILD THINGS TO LAST LIKE WHAT THEY DID 30 YEARS AGO?

Similar problem. I open the LCD hinge and the screen freezes and stops working. It seems to work if the hinge is only 1/2 open.

I had this same problem. It happened on the day I proposed to my girlfriend. I was hoping I could get someone to video it. I didn't realize that it still recorded till later. Grr...

I checked one place and they said it'd be $144 to fix, then $15 for shipping. I'd LIKE to fix it myself, but I don't have such small screwdrivers.

I actually have several of these cameras and have seen this happen many times with this model. The ribbon cable that goes from the body to the LCD tears in the same place in all of my experiences. If you look at the hing area, you can see the black coating on the ribbon cable between the body and the LCD. The top edge of this cable tears right where it enters the LCD component. If it works when only 1/2 way open, it's just a matter of time before it totally stops working...the damage has already begun. A replacement LCD runs >$100. Instead, I search e-bay for parts cameras. Just make sure that the description doesn't say that the LCD is bad.

Taking apart the camera isn't all that hard. Start with the e-bay parts camera just in case something goes wrong. Take off the lens cover (the lens actually stays attached to the camera for this entire fix) by removing a screw on the bottom, one just under the eye piece, one inside the LCD door area (near the top), and one inside the tape area...the one closest to the front of the lens. Then, the lens cover slides forward. Once you get it moving forward, extend the eye piece and the lens cover comes right out.

The 2nd step is to remove the LCD. The easiest fix is to remove the entire left side (LCD and SD flip cover). This is done by removing the 3 screws on the bottom (careful, 1 is smaller than the other 2), the screw in the battery area, a screw near the front of the lens, and 2 screws near the top (one above and 1 below the lens). Once the left side is free, tip it forward, exposing the 2 ribbon cables. The larger one is the LCD. Disconnect it by simply flipping the grey bar where the ribbon cable connects to the body up. The ribbon cable should come out with no effort. The other, smaller ribbon cable is the speaker and the "LCD is Open/Closed switch". Be careful with this one. Hold the white connector in place against the body (I apply pressure using a small, flat screwdriver). Pull the ribbon cable out of the holder at the body with your fingers (it should require only a moderate amount of force). If the white cable connector comes off with the cable, you're in trouble...the wires are extremely thin and difficult to get back in the right place...but it can be done.

Once you've removed the left side portion, do the same with the good LCD. Reconnect everything in the reverse order. I use a small needle nose pliers to put the small ribbon cable back into the connector. The larger one just slides in with little to no effort. Lock it in place by tipping the locking back back down. Once you've connected these 2 cables, you can carefully put a battery in and test that it works. If all goes well, remove the battery before continuing to put it back together again.

When you're done, put the parts camera back together again and keep it. You may need it for the lens assembly (I've had grease inside my lenses at times and the front lens can scratch easily, so a replacement is good to have around).

I've tried replacing just the ribbon cable, but getting it out of the LCD isn't worth the effort since finding a good cable usually means that you've also found a good LCD for the above proceedure.

Use the above instructions, but if you can't find a parts camera as a donor, you can buy the right part for less that $20. The part you need is LSXY0763 and can be found on eBay or various internet parts vendors. I just fixed my camera with the instructions above. WHEN YOU TAKE OUT THE SCREWS, MARK DOWN WHERE THEY CAME FROM! The are all different sizes but look very similar.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully

My handycam screen is blank and doesn't show anything

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if there is no picture or a black screen appears in the viewfinder or LCD when attempting to record.
* Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the viewfinder or LCD status after completing each step.
* It may be necessary to refer to the operating instructions provided with the camcorder for information on how to perform a task on your specific model.
1. Ensure the lens cap on the front of the camcorder has been removed.
2. Ensure a fully-charged battery is inserted in the camcorder.
3. Ensure the STANDBY/LOCK switch is set to the STANDBY position.
4. Turn on the camcorder and set it to the CAMERA mode.
5. Look to see if an image can be seen in the viewfinder or LCD.
IMPORTANT: Some camcorders have both a viewfinder and LCD. To conserve power, the viewfinder and LCD will not display at the same time. To use the viewfinder, the LCD must be closed.
6. If the issue is not resolved, reset the camcorder to factory specifications.
NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing the troubleshooting steps, service may be required .

I work on this model of samsung the lcd problem is a common thing with this camera
The ribbon cable to the lcd from the camera cracks and causes what you are talking about .
Normally the camera will still work buy using the eye viewfinder for recording and playback but you will not hear the sound unless the lcd door is open but then the picture in the viewfinder goes away when this door is open and comes back when it is closed

Inside the door hinge area is a small switch that normally would turn off the viewfinder and turn on the LCD panel. THat switch could be defective or mechanically not being switched. WIthout opening up the unit, I can not tell specifically. This shouldbe a simple repair for any shop that repairs cameras.
