I am unable to use my webcam to take pictures unless I am using Skype or MSN messenger (or similar). My laptop is a sony vaio vgn ns11j, and it is a motion eye webcam.
I have read that it should appear in My Computer under visual devices but it is not there. I have tried searching for all sorts of things on my computer and I seem to have no software relating to it. I have checked the drivers are installed and are on the most up to date ones. How can I make it work? THANK YOU! =)

Select Windows 7 Professional Operating System and re-install the WebCam Companion Software Utility and Magic-i Utility available for the computer. Also ensure to either run only the webcam companion software of any messenger software at a time.
If you are logged in to a messenger software such as Yahoo Messenger, Googletalk, Skype etc. Then, make sure to logout from the messenger and quit the application.
After that, start the Webcam companion software from all programs in start menu.
The built-in Motion Eye Camera is designed to add video functionality to many instant Messaging or video editing Software applications (such as Windows Messenger or MovieMaker). However the configuration process and support for how to set-up these individual applications is provided by the Software manufacturer, not Sony. Please contact your Yahoo Messenger support team for assistance on how to configure their Software.
TIP: Simply turning on your Computer activates that camera, so no specific action is required to start the video services. Please note that only one application can access the video signal at a time. If the signal is already in use by one application, it will not be able to be detected by a second
Follow this procedure to take still image pictures with the integrated Sony Motion Eye camera.
1. On the taskbar, click Start and then click My Computer. 2. In the My Computer window, double-click the Sony Visual Communications icon. 3. In the Sony Visual Communications window, under Camera Tasks, click Take new picture.
Follow this procedure to capture video with the integrated Sony Motion Eye camera.
1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Movie Maker. 2. In the Windows Movie Maker window, on the left side under Capture Video, click Capture from video device.
You can either access the program that is installed for your camera or on say like an instant messenger like yahoo or msn, they will drop down menus that will automatically open your webcam when requested by you. Hope this helps
Can you please describe your issue more clearly? If you are unable to see the picture on a messenger software like yahoo, msn or skype etc. then please reinstall the messenger software and also your webcam drivers/software this will fix the issue.
first you need to know that if you used xp ...and upgraded to vista ...you need to find a compatible driver for your web cam too ...if your web cam used to work just fine on vista ...and its just the msn issue ...just reinstall the latest MSN messenger and it should be enough ...also verify the proxy servers on the messenger preferences..and set 'em to fit the kinda conexion you use... but I suspect a problem with the program settings ...so the easy way is just to install the latest messenger(MSN) available for vista ...and it will be ok
