There are two thermistors on the refrigerator side. one is the fresh food and the second one is located at the bottom left rear of the 2nd evap (refrig side) thats the shunt thermistor. ohm both out. if both are within spec then the next suspected area is the shunt valve. hope this helps... Bill

Unplug the fridge and pull away from wall. There is a panel on back that has a control board. Look on both sides for burn marks or loose welds. After you manually defrost the refrigerator with a hair dryer you need to check the defrost element and defrost thermostat. Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

Water leaking from the freezer unit.

The drain hole is probably frozen over. When it goes into defrost mode every 10 hours or so, the evaporator heater removes the ice from the evaporator. There is a drain hole under the evaporator with a hose attached that goes down to a pan by the compressor fan where it is evaporated so as to not leak water on the floor. When it freezes over the drain, the water fills the bottom of the freezer until it comes out the door. A common fix to prevent the drain from freezing over is to take a bare copper 14 or 12 gauge wire and put a couple turns around the evaporator heater and stick the other end into the drain. This heats the wire enough to keep water from freezing b over the drain hole.

Evaporator Coils freezing.

Hi, The most common problem is the defrost heater. It is attached to the bottom of the evaporator coil in a bracket.
If you have a meter, you can remove the element from the coil and take the two wires off. Checck the post on the element that the wirea attach to for continuity. If the element is good, it will have continuity to it. If the element is ok, check continuity on the bi-metal switch attatched to the top of the evaporator coils. It too must have continuity to be ok and it needs to be tested while still cold.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
