My X6 worked fine until it started to dissconnect(DSL light starts blinking, and internet light off) for no reason. Initially, it would do this when the computer it is set up on was switched off, but now it does this every 10 mins. I called the Zoom helpline and all they said was to download the Firmware update (which i did, and it worked fine for a couple hours), or contact the ADSL provider, which is not necesary because there appears to be no problem with reguards to that connecting to them. Is there some sort of setting i need to change, so that it would stay on, even when the computer it is set up on is off? (The way is was when i bought it 1 month ago)

Possible issue with freequent connection loss when going over 2 comp on a network are possible issues of collisions on the network meaning that sometimes more often then not, it is possible for two comp to end up recieving same ip address fr modem.

solution: first find out ip range supplied by the router in modem. then statically assign ip address to each comp

this is done by going into tcp/ip properties of either nic or wireless card and set to use following ex

NOTE: IP RANGE USUALLY LAST SET OF NUMBERS IN IP ADDRESSING TIPPICAL RANGE IS BETWEEN 10 TO 99

ip address: 192.168.2.12 (static ip address for computer)

subnetmask: 255.255.255.254 (generic subnetmask)

default gateway: 192.168.2.1 (ip address of router)

Can i remove ethernet cable after installing router because when i do i lose connection

A router basically acts as a translator between networks to enable inter-connectivity. Your question was not descriptive enough. I think you are using a wireless router to route a wired network to a wireless one. If that is so, the router should be connected to both. For instance an ADSL or DSL Gateway router should be connected to the ISP through the wired cable and at the same time act as an access point (i.e. a getway, DHCP etc) to the local network. If this doesn't give you enough information try to clarify your question and i 'll try 2 help.

Zoom x6 modem disconnect

If you only get disconnected on the desktop, the problem is the desktop.

You can try removing network card from device manager and installing it back, try also logging in with a different user name and disabling eventual firewalls.

Fastest way to get rid of problems of this kind is by reinstalling windows, and if it does not work getting a replacement network card, or connecting the PC wireless.

If you have a spare wireless LAN Usb adapter, try connecting the PC on wireless.

Zoom aDSL modem/wireless router seen but not connecting

Here are a couple of ideas to look at first, assuming you haven't tried them already:

1) Does moving the router help? Sometimes a new DECT phone or a microwave, or even a piece of equipment at a neighbour's house, can interfere with the signal.

2) Does changing the channel on your router help at all? If there are many other networks using the same channel, this might block your own signal.
3) If this does not make any difference, it might be worth checking your security settings.

Wireless connection is slower than wired!

Yes there is a difference although most router manufacturers claim that you can get 4 or even 6x times faster than 54Mbps of a regular 802.11g wireless standard, wired connection(10/100/1000Mbps) are still faster because they are less subjected to interference unlike wireless that are vulnerable to interference like cordless phones, microwave devices, lighting fixtures, distance and the obstruction between your wireless router and the computer.

Limited connectivity

Hi Duneider!
It's normal that your computers will not connect after you enable a wireless security (WEP/WPA). You are getting a limited or no connectivity message because the wireless computers are not connected to the network using the network key or the password that you have used to setup WEP or WPA. There is no need in hard conding the IP address, all you need to do is reconnect to the wireless network using the WEP or WPA Key. If you will type the correct WEP or WPA Key, it will connect and automatically get the IP address again from your router.
