Vibrating and noisy Kirby

Our Kirby is making a very loud, high pitched noise whenever it is turned on. It doesn't matter if the head is on or the hose attachment. It vibrates excessively also and smells like a burning motor. Is it time to bury it?

Power off the vacuum.

Unplug the power cord from the wall.

Remove the head or hose attachment.

Look at the fan and make sure all the fins on the fan are there.

If part of one or more is missing it will cause the fan to wobble and shake.

If the Kirby is less than 3 years old, it is still on warranty, which means you should get a repair for free.

If it is older, there is the factory rebuild program. For about 200 bucks they rebuild your Kirby so it is like new!

So for less than a regular one item service would cost for some other machine, you will get a total rebuild. Ask your Kirby representative.

NEVER throw a Kirby away!!! lol Everything is repairable.

Your problem could be the carbon brushes and/or the armature OR the fan. Sometimes you can't see the damage without taking the Kirby apart. I have a guide that will help you to disassemble the Kirby to check these parts closer up. Please see both of the following guides...I hope they help! If you decide to throw it away, I will pay the shipping to send it to me instead...  :0)

Dyson motor making high pitched noise. Is this

Most likely, there's something in the dirt tube. Ic could be something like a piece of paper or cellophane, vibrating from the air going over it. without hearing it, a high pitch noise could be different things.

Kirby turns on with hose attachement but not with head attachment

Front of the unit, black switch that is pressed by this plastic protrusion from hose coupling has two parts. It is because ANY generation Kirby has speeds - HIGH for vacuuming with hose and LOW for using it with nozzle.
Looks like the switch went bad (Switch HERE)

We have instructions for replacing it too.
The "funny noise" with hose throws me off a bit though. Check if there is nothing in the hose (put a nickle through it).

Good Luck

My Kirby G3 makes a loud, high pitch whistle with the hose

I would say you either have something stuck on the impeller or there is a piece of paper or something stuck inside the hose. its not clogging the hose but when the air passes by it. It is making that noise. If you find nothing you may need a repair. May have a bad bearing in the motor. Actually you can also try inspecting the brush on the head. It removes easily from vacuum and should spin freely and quietly.

There seems to been a high pitched sound in the motor. I'd describe it as a 'dry' sound, and the high pitch of it is very loud. I want to stop vacuuming because it's so loud. Are there any oil/greasing...

High pitched noise is not good. It may indicate that a bearing is going out. I would not use Kirby as it may lead to burned motor.

If you feel that it vibrates quite a bit too - then it may be only broken fan blade.

Fan blade - you are looking ar around $40-$50 and if this is a motor bearing - $60-$80. If anyone wants to charge you more - we will repair it but you will have to pay shipping both ways (roughly another $30 both ways all together)

Ohhh yeah - try it with the hose. If no sound then brush roll bearings may be bad...

Good Luck,
Rocky

Wind tunnel supreme sounds very loud

Sounds like a bad motor, you have a years warranty on this, take it in for warranty repair. You will void the warranty if you mess with it.
