Hi, My Maytag plus is not cooling well on the refrigerator side. The freezer is fine but does have a frost buildup on the back wall. Thanks for any suggestions.

freezer works refrigerator side isn't cooling...We've check for frost on the back bottom of freezer... there is a small amount of frost, the fan in the freezer is running. Air not blowing out of anything on the refrigerator side.

One thang that was suggested the problem is.....the VENT/ Damper is the problem. Where can this Vent/Damper be found?? The owners manuel was NOT left with the refrigerator when we bought the house.

A chunk of ice was behind the grill right behind the ice maker, with the freezer door open for about 10 mins, the chunk of ice fell down to the bottom. Please HELP, and thank you.

First check for a thick frost buildup on the back panel of the freezer at the bottom.  Also, check to see if the fan in the freezer is running.  Let me know what you find so I can lead you in the right direction.

Do you feel cold air blowing out of the vent, should be at the top, in the refrigerator section?  If not then that vent/damper is the problem.  Let me know.

Maytag refrigerator not cold.

do you have a full frost pattern (coating) on freezer coils or see a ice ball, if ice ball Leak in system or bad valve in compressor. not worth fixing. go on (repair clinic .com).
you have a dampener and a fan to let the cold air go to all the areas check to make sure fan is running push in light switch in freezer and llisten for fan could be problem or no power to fan from main control board.
Dampener is flapper door that lets cold air from freezer go into ref. section
are your doors sealed, gaskets, frapper between door on ref section closing.
also your return air ducts need to be clear of ice, is your ice maker working that means that it is below 10 degees and repairable.

Need to see if the damper is open inside the fridge.  This the vent in to top left hand corner.  If it is not open then the damper needs to be replaced.  If it is open then one of the return vents (lower part of fridge) is blocked/plugged.  Let me know what you find.

The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

Maytag plus refrigerater not cold enough

If the freezer is cold and the refrigerator is warm, the unit is probably not going into defrost. Remove the back inside of the freezer and see if all frosted up. If so thaw with a hair dryer and replace the adaptive defrost assembly located inside the back of the refrigerator section. Up on the ceiling of the ref where you adjust the temp. remove thc cover by putting your fingers in the back holes and pull forward. Make sure the ref is unplugged. Remove two 1/4" head screws in the front and two phillip head screws by the lights. One 1/4" head screw straight in the back. The defrost timer is located in the far right corner. A small board 2 to 3" square. It will unplug and is probably screwed in.

Freezer works fine,refrierator not cold.

Check to see if the fan is running in the frezzer side. This is called the evaperator fan and it blows the cold air from your evaperator to the ref side to cool it. If this is not running then your ref will not be cooling at all.

Refrigerator compartment cools correctly for a few days then no longer receives cold air from freezer. The freezer continues to operate and gets much colder than it should.

does your fan blow? freezers have a fan that pushes cold air to the fridge side if fan is bad freezer will run extremely cold and fridge won't cool down and since frige won't cool down thermostat in fridge doesn't tell compressor to stop

Freezer gets cold, Refrigerator Hot

First, I think it’s important to know that the Ref side has no cooling coils, it’s basically a box and the cold air in the freezer is blown over by a fan through a channel into the Ref side. This channel has a door which regulates how much cold air goes through. You probably have two control knobs in the Ref side, one controls the temp with numbers 1-9, 9 being the coldest. This temp control tells the compressor how long to run. The other control is for that little door and it may have letters A-E, E being the coldest. If you set it on E (coldest) then this will close that little door and keep most the cold air in the freezer.

Now, why is that cold air not getting over to the Ref side?
1. The little door is not open.
check your control setting. You can't see the door but, you should be able to feel air coming through the channel on the Ref side.

2. The fan in the freezer is not working.
You can hear this fan running when you open the freezer.

3. The coils on the freezer side are clogged with ice which won't let the fan circulate the air over to the Ref side.
This is a failure of the defrost system which consist of the defrost timer, heater, and thermo disc.

Also, If you replaced the evaporator fan then you got a good look at the cooling coils. Look at these coils while it is running. There should be a light coat of frost on all the coils. If this frost line is only 3/4 or 1/2 or any amount less than full coverage of the coils then the system has a coolant leak.

Directly under these coils is the drain pan and drain hole in the middle. This area should be clear of any ice or debris.

If there is no frost on the freezer side it may be low on coolant.
