SOURCE: basement up flush tiliet.

Is this a grinder pump with float switch? Or is it built into toilet sump?

First in either case if you can identify the capacitor, get one and replace it, they wear out over time anyway. If that fixes it, you are done the easy way.

Many of these type motors are throw aways, and finding the switch, let alone getting it apart and replacing it is more trouble than buying a new motor if available.

If you are plumbed in, and have no other choice but major construction to replace an up toilet, we can attempt a repair at our shop, if that is against the rules here, sorry, but I know what a complicated and near impossible fix this might be, sometimes the motors are riveted together, so if you need help and want to mail it to me for an estimate, we are happy to take a quick look.

SOURCE: water backing up into my basement ejector pump during heavy rain

I have seen this problem several times before. The ejector pump should be in a separate crock in the ground by itself. Someone has installed it in the crock that is meant to pump out drain water. Probably the result of adding a bathroom in the basement. You need to bust another hole in the floor and install a separate crock to solve this problem correctly. If it just started happening go outside and look at he gutters to make sure water is running away from the house and not up against the foundation.

SOURCE: How can I tell if

Depending on the sensitivity of the float switch you may find that the float must be completely upside-down for the pump to turn on. The easiest way to check if the pump works is grab the float by hand and hold it in the inverted position - if your pump kicks in and starts pumping you know the pump itself works and you may want to adjust your float (I use tie-straps around the handle and around the float cord to artificially shorten the float). If your pump does not pump water when the float is inverted try shaking the float to see if the inner switch is stuck. Hope that helps.

Zoeller Pump M57

The only "easy fix" may be a stuck float switch. First make sure the outlet where the pump is plugged in works. Plug something into the outlet such as a work light to confirm the outlet is live. The float switch may be stuck in the OFF position. Giggle the float arm up and down several times to see if the pump comes on.> You can spry wd40 into the switch where the arm enters. If this does not work, the pump probably needs servicing.

My Zoeller M57 pump has stopped working. It won't even turn on...is there a reset switch or some other easy fix for this?

These Zoeller pumps are very good quality> I suspect that the float switch is not working, which is why the pump is not turning on.You may try giggling the float arm that is attached to the switch. You can also try spraying some WD 40 into the switch where the arm enters. Zoeller does have replacement parts for their pumps. Review their website for your pump parts.
