Burnt Rubber smell and spin cycle didn't work

A couple of weeks ago, we experienced the burnt rubber smell and the washer would not spin. My husband replaced the belts and the washer was working again. Yesterday, I loaded a small load and the same thing happened, burnt rubber smell, so we turned it to the spin cycle and nothing happen. Any ideas on how to fix or what happened.

There is a rubber belt between the motor and the rotating cylinder.
If it is frayed, then part of the belt is hitting something during the "wash" cycle, and rubbing much faster during the "spin" cycle.
Replace the belt.

What is the make and model of your washer? I had a similar problem with my Maytag - there was a burnt resistor on the control board. We ended up just buying a new washer since the cost for parts alone was close to $400...the labor would have been a DIY-thing (15 minutes easily for the greenest amateur).

Hello. Most likely the transmission has gone bad resulting in dislodging of the tub causing the plastic and the burnt rubber. This is probably not worth repairing unless it is under warranty and less than 3 years old. This is the perfect time to get an energy star washer which has a government rebate of 75 dollars. Joe

your problem is probably the coupling that ataches the motor to the transmission , take the skirt of the washer off , take the motor off and you going to see the rubber coupling if is bad just change it , cheap part
