Question about Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 - Hp for In Ground Pools

1 Answer

Hayward Super Pump not turning on

Im trying to open the pool for the season, and the pump is not turning on. The pump will hum for about 4 sec, then completly stop. The reason why it stops is because it is tripping the breaker. Im confused on why its doing this. Is my breaker (fuse) bad, or is it the pump itself. Please help

Inside pump is a difram , it most likely is stuck, some times if you shut off pump, turn back on a few times it might release itself, but most likely needs to be replaced. Let me know, mike from fixya.com

I think your impeller may be stuck OR your start capacitor has failed. Your pump is going off on over load because it cannot turn or cannot start.

The motor may have blown the start capacitor. It is the black cylinder about 1-1/2" dia x 2-1/2" long. Look at the end with the wires for a small hole. Is it blackened or have a hole blown thru? If so replace it. Otherwise have a local electric motor repair shop look at it for possible repair or replacement.

if it has been sitting since last year, some rust could have kept the shaft from turning. Get some pump pliers and try to rock the shaft. after you get it freed up, turn it back on.
