Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE Microwave Model JE1640WA runs when the door is open only

I have GE Microwave Model JE1640WA and some how it stopped working properly. To make it work we had to press the piece that opens the door but not actually push all the way to open it but just to make the microwave work and heat up the food. But afterawhile that stopped working as a workaround. Then it suddenly start to run when the door is open and would stop if the door is closed. I disassembled the microve to see what is going on it looks like the Primary, Door Sense and Monitor is what seems to be screwed up. I played around with it but good not make sense why it only runs when the door is open.

You probably have a loose or broken door switch mount or the door may be slightly misaligned.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

My GE (JE1640WA 001) turns on when the door opens. works ok otherwise. Is this something I can fix?

check that you have the thermostat set correctly. Opening the door raises the temperature in the fridge and so the compressor will start up straight away to bring the temperature down. have an accredited service person check out if that is not the case.

Jmc8100ad microwave oven no fan, no heat, no turntable

This is most likely a bad door switch or mount (usually the bottom but occasionally the top) or a defective relay or connection on the circuit board, which can be repaired.

My spacemaker just stopped heating food. What do

This is a microwave, correct?

I suspect the door lock interface switch(es) are burned out. Unplug it, be mindful of the 25,000 volts in the silver thing. Check the micro switches (look where the door closes on the top right side, probably) two positions, normally open or normally closed. check them for proper operation.

Micro switches are the most common of microwave failures because most of us open the door while the machine is running causing arc at the switch and burning up the little contacts.

GE JE1640WA problem

Chances are you have a bad primary interlock (top door switch) or its mount is damaged or loose.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

(Your mini-manual may show that your primary interlock is the bottom switch, so go by it)

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Microwave works with the door open

The top door switch is almost certainly defective or loose. Most likely the latter, and possibly due to a loose or broken mount. Chances are that only the fan and light are on, but it's not wise to take chances with microwave energy, whuch can cause burns and fire. One way to possibly test this theory is to pull up gently on the door and see if it stops doing it. But that's not a foolproof test. A broken or loose mount can be caused by inadequate plastic or improper assembly techniques during manufacturing, by slamming the door, or other physical damage. Bad door switches are usually caused by opening the door while it's cooking instead of hitting the STOP KEY first. I have a helpful text file on door switches with safety tips that will help you. You can find it by searching on Yahoo.com (not Google) for microwave safety.txt Good luck and be safe!
