Windows Vista Business vs XP

Windows Vista is ruining my life!!! I recently bought a new Sony Vaio laptop at Best Buy. The guy said it has Vista instead of XP. I asked what that means, he said it's the latest thing, an upgrade, blah blah.

But it is NOT an upgrade. I do digital imaging 12-16 hours every day. My digital imaging program (Microsoft) acts squirrely. I'll be working on something for a long time, and suddenly the screen grays out and I get "Microsoft Digital Imaging has stopped working. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and then my work is lost. (INCONVENIENCE"!?!? I have missed deadlines because of this thing, and my income will show it this year)

My images are all screwed up too. The way I used to organize them is now out the window, and all images are now hijacked by WIndow Photo Gallery, which does not have the capabilities I had before. Also, some images mysteriously move from one album to another and I can't find them when I need them. Entire albums of images I've turned in or am currently working on have just totally disappeared. Sometimes I can find them by doing a search, sometimes not, but the sheer amount of time I have to spend looking for things or redoing them!!!!

And Internet Explorer quits on me too, same grayed screen, same pop-up, and it always says the problem was caused by Windows Vista.

My webcam suddenly quit on me, before I realized Vista had compatibility issues, so I got a new one. The software installed correctly but when I tried to use it, it always said "No webcam is detected" even though it was plugged in properly.

By now I am beginning to realize that all these headaches are caused by VIsta, so I go out and get a cam which is marked "For Windows Vista." Guess what, it doesn't work either. I took it to the Geek Squad and they got it to work, but the next day it was not working again.

I went BACK there and told them I hate Vista and that they should tell people what it means before they buy it. THey said they don't even HAVE any computers without Vista anymore, and neither will anyone else.

There are even more ways Vista is ruining my life, but I'm pretty sure you've heard enough of my whining.

SO my question is: is that true?? Or are Microsoft and Best Buy in collusion? if I do get a new computer and put XP on it, is that a dumb idea?

thank you,

Leslie Murray

Cameron, Thank you, I will do it. I was afraid it was too late now that I have all this data stored, but if you think I won't lose any then this sounds like a plan. And anyway I can back everything up first. So thanks,

Thanks, pcon, I have gone back and forth between your suggestion and downgrading my present computer to XP. I sure know one thing-- I am not living this way till 2014! I use my computers hard and sometimes need to buy two in one year, so if I do need a new one I'll know this time to get XP on it one way or another.

    thanks, guys

I RECENTLY CHANGE FROM XP TO VISTA. MY PROBLEMS EXISTED IN THE SOFTWARE OF EXISTING PROGRAMS & PRINTERS . MICROSOFT WOULDNT HELP WITHOUT PAYMENT , BECAUSE MY VERSION WAS PRELOADED BY HP AND HP DOESNT KNOW HOW TO FIX THESE DRIVER AND PROGRAM PROBLEMS. I DIDN'T HAVE THE DRIVER SUPPORT OR UPGRADE FOR VISTA . EVERY OLD PROGRAM HAS TO HAVE A VISTA DRIVER UPGRADE IF IT IS NOT AVAILIABLE THEN YOUR OUT OF LUCK THE PROGRAM WILL NOT WORK WITH VISTA AND YOU CANNOT FIX IT . MY CANNON PRINTER IS NOT COMPATIABLE WITH VISTA EITHER I GET IT TO PRINT BUT THERES CONFLICTS WITH THE SOFTWARE AND FAXING AND EMAILING WITH VISTA HOME PREMIUM I WANT MY XP BACK OR I WANT THESE PROGRAM CONFLICTS TO STOP. VISTA SHOULD SEND OUT SOME KIND OF DRIVER SUPPORT UPGRADE SO THE OLD PROGRAMS CAN RUN . GOOD LUCK EVERYONE .

Because you have Vista Business on your computer, the Windows licence allows you to use the same license key (using the Downgrade License section) for an installation of Windows XP. With this, if you ever do decide to go back up to Vista you won't have to buy another license for it.

I don't really have a solution, but, you can still buy new computers with XP operating systems.  On Dell"s website there is an option on the main page (in small print) that allows you to configure your purchase using XP rather than VISTA.  The latest information I have found regarding support by Microsoft for the XP platform is that they will continue updates until 2014.  You may not be able to buy a non-VISTA computer in a retail store, but I'm sure you can buy it thru websites such as DELL and CDW.  Good luck.

Vista is a huge change for you then. I understand your frustration.

It really just depends on what your used to, your PC specs,etcs..

You do not need to buy a new computer just to have XP.

What you can do is erase Vista off the new sony, and install XP. I can help guild you if you like, on the phone it's almost a 1-3 hour talk. Depending on your experience etc..

It's an easy process downgrading to XP, all you need is:
1.A XP Disk.(The Windows XP Operating System Disk)

That's it, you get that and we can down grade your Sony to XP.

I recommend people get vista for a secondary PC like have a desktop that you do your work on, and if you have a laptop get vista on it as your personal computer. But on the desktop being your work keep it as is.

Let us know what you decide,

Thanks and I hope this helps,

Also GeekSquad is a bunch of stupid bricks who over charge.

No offense to anyone here.  Like what they said, Vista is the new thing now its the new OS (Operating System) just like Windows XP was when it came out.

What you have to do now is buy yourPC with Vista, then down grade it to XP if you prefer XP you can always upgrade if you want to vista without losing files, as long as its compatible with Vista.

    Wel heres the down side.

If you down grade from Vista you lose all data.

Only when your upgrading to Vista you wont lose your data.

But yea like you said, I would backup the software files,etc.. download grade to XP if thats what you want. But you do not need to go spend $800 on a new PC just to have XP you just down grade your sony to xp.

I just bought this brand sony vaio new laptop and it has windows home premium on it... Then the ms Office home/student 2007 and that kept asking me for a Prod Key..

You need to register the Vaio and if you are using the MS office that came on the computer you will need to go through the purchase and registration process. The version they put on computers today is a 90 day temporary trial that requires you to purchase a product key to continue using it. You can go to Walmart, Target, Best Buy and purchase the software there to get your key if you prefer. It will cost the same.

Just bought new sony vaio ns laptop,if i nudge it slightly it keeps coming up with errors 1st was a windoes error then hard drive now it wont even lauch windows vista

Hello,

My advice is since you just brought new sony vaio ns laptop then please contact your supplier or store you buy the laptop then let them fix it for you since you still have the warranty period covered since you buy it from them. So to avoid the void of yourwarranty from your laptop then please return it to the supplier or to the store where you buy.

Thanks

How to Install windows XP in SONY VAIO Vista

Is it ok if your files get lost forever?  If it is then what you have to do is when it says if you want to partition a hard drive space, you delete the biggest parition (which wipes any and all vista and files of the computer.)  Then it will ask you which partition you want use.  Use the one you just deleted, whhich is the biggest one.  It will ask you to format it and stuff, just go with it.  Then you will have XP instead of Vista!  (Warning: I warned you above that this way will wipe of vista and any other files-documents-photos-everything off your comptuer)

Windows XP drivers for Sony VAIO Laptop

There is no easy answer for this type of question, unfortunately. The best I can do is offer some advice. While installing XP is always possible, and most of the time preferred by the user, not all of the hardware will work every time with every computer. That's just a disclaimer. Sony vaio motion eye

Windows Vista is not the greatest at working on proprietary machines with drivers intended for XP. Can you get a driver from SONY for the motion eye that supports VISTA? I had Vista on my new machine (Dell) for all of 3 minutes before I uninstalled it and put a brand new copy of XP on. It's stable -- and works. Vista is squirrelly.
