SOURCE: Power wires shorted out. something

You probably burnt resistors, relays and transistors near front end sections. Need to take to shop or do yourself. Small solder pencil, solder ******, and change all parts and tiny relay box which may be a black square(but,it rarely fails) I would say transistors, capacitors, resistors. Best to let professionals have a look..Cb shops,Radio Shack, www.copperelectronics.com. Galaxy Radio.Inc.People who service radios; they may charge a good price $$$ though. About $18 to $30/Hr. Labor plus parts.

We hooked up the cb radio and the meter light lit up.... my buddy tiltted the radio back and it started to smoke, i took the cap off and the smoke was comming from under the echo board, we fixed one...

If there was a direct short to ground.....which it sounds like there was....it would've blown the protecton diode. The protectio diode is located near the power plug on the inside of the radio (component side). It will be black with a white stripe at one end, It looks like a little can/cylinder with wires coming out of each end. Kinda like a resistor.....but smooth.
The problem lies HERE.....
If it did burn the diode, it will not look like that, It will be a crispy little black thing that falls apart when you touch it.
Just look around near the power plug for a burnt component. If you see one...well...thats probably it.
FYI: the diode will be directly between the pos and neg leads in the circuit near the plug.
Also...CHECK THE FUSE!!!!

One more thing. If the radio started smoking when you tilted it....that means that there is something metal rolling around in there loose. Thats the only reason it should've shorted like that.
Good luck!!

2000 ford windstar...new battery, new alternator....still won't stay charged

Something is wired wrong draining electricity. Check the glove box light see if the radio works without the key. look for anything coming strait off of the battery not off of acc power. If it was a direct wire short out of nowhere the wire would have burnt up and been bare by now.Its somthing you have on or is staying on.

Radio won't power up

The radio was most likely hooked up to power backwards. When you hook up the positive and ground wires wrong, it will blow the polarity protection diode in the radio.

The part is N1004 available at any radio shack. The number on the board is D23. It is located near the back right of the board when looking at the component side of the board. It may look black and burnt but not always. Replace it with another N1004 or better. If in a bind, you can just remove it and it will work again BUT!!!!

If you hook it up backwards again by mistake, it will ruin the radio.

I have a HD52W55 and it will not come on. heard a pop and smelled something burning, took the back cover off can not find anything obviously burnt but have no lights and no power.

Well, my first guess would be a blow fuse, did you check for that?
But if you smelled something burning, then even if the fuse did blow, it failed to protect something; probably the main power transformer. That's a coil of wire in a sort of square shape that should be near the fuse. Its hard to tell if they're burnt sometimes, but it may need replacement.
Please upload a few pictures so we can have a look too.

My magnum when i key up it blows the fuse, what could it be?

check your aerial for open/short circuit/power wiring to cb in truck/upgrade the fuse by 1 amp/mike wiring (tx/rx) if the cb shop could'nt find anything wrong then the faults in the truck/aerial/power? or the cb shops not up to much! you could have a faulty output transistor in the cb if all else fails?

I have power supply in hand

I experienced a similar problem with three FLM 2601 power supplies (from work). The two large caps that have hot melt keeping them in place are the typical culprits. They are located at one end of the module near the x-former.
Radio shack has the 35v 1000u caps for about $1.40 each.
Hope this helps.
