SOURCE: chain will not move on chainsaw

It sounds as though the chain brake is released.

If a Poulan PP4218(MattersNot) it has an inboard clutch. Push the forward most upper handle toward the bar nose. Did it click? If not the chain brake is engaged; grasp the forward most upper handle and pull it aft (may require some force at rear extreme) until it clicks (a keeper nests in a detent). Move it fore and aft a few times, make it click in each position just for familiarity. If not the problem please post back (below) and we will continue.

SOURCE: chain will not move on chainsaw

Normal 0 This will be the basic instruction for most common saws. Check that the chain brake is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard towards the front handle if the saw is equipped with a chain brake on the handle. Loosen the bar nuts on the clutch cover. Loosen tension screw or other adjuster (thumbscrew) to allow the bar to be moved toward the engine. Some saws have this tension adjustment built into the bar. This will provide enough slack in the chain to able to reinstall it. It may be necessary to remove the side cover to gain access to the clutch/gear assembly on the side of the engine if the chain also jumped the gear here. Remove the cover, inspect for any debris or other obstructions in this area. If none, replace the chain back over the drive gear and in the bar groove all the way around the bar. It may be necessary to turn the bar adjuster screw more to provide enough slack in the chain to do this. Once the chain is in place reinstall the cover and bar lock nuts. Snug up the nuts but do not tighten these. Turn the bar/chain adjuster screw to tighten the chain on the bar (take up slack). I usually tighten to a point where there is no slack between the chain and the bottom of the bar and I can still turn the chain easily around the bar by hand. With experience you will get the feel for this chain tension. Once the chain is properly tensioned, tighten the bar lock bolts/ nuts on the side cover.

Some Poulan Pros have an adjuster screw on the front of the engine case right beside the bar, some have a tool less adjuster on the clutch cover, and some have a slot in the bar for adjusting the chain tension.

I hope this helps you out.

I tookthe chain cover off of my homelite ut10560 and a small pin fell out of it. Now i dont know where it goes. any help?? thanks!!!

The chain bar usually sits on a pin to position it in place on a chainsaw. Is yours there? If it is and the bar appears to be installed correctly, does the chain saw work as normal?

How to put chain back on when it falls off

Almost every saw has a cover where the bar locks onto the saw, you take off the cover just as you do if you needed to remove the bar.

Just loosen the two or one bolts that hold the bar and slide the bar back, put on the chain and slide the bar back out.

Now there is suppose to be some play, the chain is not suppose to be very tight.

Here is what it suppose to be like.

Read this link that I post, it's easier to read this then me trying to explain it.

Bought a Homelite 14" electric chainsaw. After

I am not sure if you have figured out how to put the chain back on your saw or not, but it doesn't take long.
1. Remove the plastic yellow "T" shaped nut on the right side of the saw (towards the front of the motor housing)
2. Remove the black plastic housing that covers the rear section of the bar and chain
3. Place the chain back onto the bar making sure it is facing the correct direction.
4. Place the chain over the rear sprocket area
5. Turn the +/- yellow plastic knob (towards the back of the saw on the right side) in the - direction until the metal guide inside the plastic casing lines up with the hole in the chainsaw bar
6. Replace the black plastic housing and slightly tighten the yellow "T" shaped nut.
7. Now turn the +/- knob until the chain is tight. Once the chain is tight, turn the "T" nut until it is tight and you are ready to cut again.

Cant get the chain oiler to pump oil. Can hear it pumping

If it has oil and is not pumping it, then it is probably blocked by a wood chip that fell in to the oil when you opened the cap.
You need to blow it out with air, backwards.
