Question about Sony Google TV NSX-40GT1 40 in. HDTV LCD TV

1 Answer

Blue screen with small red lines. Like Static.

I was updating my tv and I accidentally unplugged it and then turned it back on. It doesn't show anything. It will load the "Sony" and then go blue. It doesn't ask to go back to factory settings. The Tv doesn't respond to the remote and wont connect with it either. How do I fix this?

With any luck, you can go to sony.com and download the firmware update onto your computer and put it on a usb drive and then plug the usb drive into the google tv and with any luck, it will update automatically.

SOURCE: Problem w/blue "bleed" on LCD TV screen

Sony has acknowledged this problem as being a defect in the optical block and has extended the warranty replacement on this part till december 2008. I have the kdf50we655 and had the same problem. It was repaired for free, but would have cost me about $1500.

Red lines on Sony KP51HW40 Rear projection TV

Yeah, seen that more times than I shoulda in the last 4 years. The red picture tube has a cathode to heater short. That means it's no good. That red picture tube is no longer availible. But all is not lost. There is a company that rebuilds those tubes reasonably. Most reputable tv shops will know this. The ones I've done cost around $450 out the door. One minor hitch is that with all the shipping involved the job usually takes about three weeks. That can be expidited but then the price goes up.

The tv is showing red lines on the screen.

These are retrace lines. The screen on the red tube is turned up too high. Inside the set there are 6 knobs. 3 for focus & 3 for screen. Turn down the red screen until lines are gone. These knobs are usually found by pulling of the front panel.

Blue Screen

Your blue crt has a short - you can verify this by unplugging the socket from the blue crt and powering up the set and you should see a yellowish looking picture with just the red and green crt's operating. You can try turning down the screen control pot (B) for blue with the blue crt on (just to the point where you no longer see retrace lines in the picture on a blank input)Sony has had a lot of problems with the crt's on these models and sooner or later all the crt's will fail - For a permanent repair all must be changed.
