Desktop items access denied Please Help Me!!!!

Hello I am trying to access certain files such as notepad, music, pictures and certain folders on my desktop but my computer tells me my access is denied and or that it is write protected. I have taken ownership of these files again and again with the same result. I am the administrator and the only user of my computer. It may be something that can be done via pushing a couple of keyboard shortcut keys as my 1 year old sometimes gets her little hand up here and pulls up menus I have never seen.
Please help some of these files are very important.
I have not reinstalled xp or modified it. Also I have tried system restore with no result.
Thanks For Your Help In Advance

I have unchecked simple sharing in the folders options and changed every single setting in the properties to gain ownership of the file. I do own the file but cannot view it. Im not sure if it matters but the certificate thumb prints are different between a file I can access and the ones I can not.

If you've taken ownership of the folders, you should be able to access the Security tab and assign yourself full permissions to the folder.

If you don't see the Security tab, go to Folder Options in Control Panel, select the View tab, then in the list box scroll to the bottom and de-select Simple File Sharing.

Hope this helps!

Ownership is not the same as having full permissions. Please make sure under the Security tab that your user has permissions assigned to it.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by a 'certificate thumbprint'. Do you mean an MD5 hash?

Sorry I can't be more help!

Error Creating Folder 1008:9,-5000 Access Denied Error

Hello,

You should already have read/write access to your own Application Support folder. If you are referring to the /Library/Application Support folder, repairing permissions should set the proper permissions on the folder, but probably not the contents (you really shouldn't change permissions on system files and folders). Trying to move or change permissions on the contents of an entire folder may also fail if there are items in there that you don't have access for, such as those owned by another user (check the permissions of the specific folder that you are trying to copy to).

I can't seem to change my desktop solid colour background back to the dots background. I have tried to do it on the appearance and personalistion mode from the control panel with no success

Hello

1. Open a notepad, and copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"Wallpaper"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"Wallpaper"=-

2. After the above commands have been pasted, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. When the "Save As" window pops up, please click "Browser folders", click Desktop, change the file name to register.reg and click Save.

3. Go to Desktop, you will find the file.
Before you you run this file, please make a backup for your registry first, you can refer to the following link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

After that, you can double click register.reg to run the commands that have been pasted.
In addition, please uncheck the setting in the Ease of Access Center.
1. Click Start, Control Panel, Ease of Access, Ease of Access Center.
2. Click Make the computer easier to see, Under Make things on the screen easier to see, deselect the option:
Remove background images (where available).
3. Select Save.
After that, you should be able to change the desktop background now.
I hope this would help you.

For backups of music/pictures, you can either user windows backup tool.
Or if you want to choose more specific files then, create a new folder within you new external HD and name it 'Back Up' within this folder create some more folders say Documents, Music and Pictures.
From here navigate to the files/Folders you want to backup and right click and copy them, next head back over to you backup folder we created and paste the files to the relevant folder whether its music pictures or documents.
If you need more just ask.

Device driver will not install; error msg "Access Denied"

Ok so i was searching around the internet and found a similar problem with another monitor so for giggles i tried there method. This is the website where i found it : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistahardware/thread/d7c0e5bd-2fcf-48ff-a79b-c157014fc821/#page:3

The Second Entry has a download. Download it then extract the files to the desktop. Dont worry if you get errors when the program runs it will fix them, if they come up just press enter to keep going. Once the program completes install the driver again and it should work as it did for me.

If you cant get to that website heres the post from it:
"Ok, once again i checked updates for HP My Display/Drivers, and found this:
http://www.portrait.com/dtune/hpw/enu/support_help.html

Here is a direct link to fix for "Access Denied" issue (HP LCD Monitors & Vista):
http://download.portrait.com/DRVFix.zip

Download DRVFix.zip. The fix contains 3 files including this readme. All must be in to the same folder.
  • readme.txt - This file
  • RestoreDisp.exe - Executable required to restore permissions. DO NOT RUN THIS FILE
  • DVRFIX.exe - Run this file in Administrator mode after reading the instructions completely
To perform the fix do the following:
  1. Extract all files in to a folder on your desktop
  2. Open the folder, right click on the DVRFIX.exe file and choose "Run As Administrator"
  3. Follow the on screen instructions. When complete, you should be able to install your drivers

If you find this helpful, please let me know.

I fixed this issue manually (from registry), about month ago.
But gladly i found this help file, by mistake. emotion-1.gif

Regards
Vesa"

Accessing a folder.

This will sound off the wall, but we had something similar to this happen with my last laptop, where it was "access denied" in lots of areas, and we would have to find little backdoor ways to get into control panel and document files. The problem with our computer was that it had previously crashed, and we had rebooted and reinstalled the xp, but didn't have the registration number, so it would run ok, but to get into all those access denied things (which you eventually need to get into) we had to come up with our registration number.
Did it prompt you to enter the product key when you re-installed it?

Getting ipod to record music

Symptom When opening iTunes for Windows you may see the following error message:
"iTunes might be unable to launch or communicate with iPod or iPhone. For help repairing your operating system, click More Information." Products affected
  • iTunes for Windows
Solution This symptom may be caused by an issue with the digital signing of Windows XP drivers. First, update to the latest version of iTunes. You can download the updater here or in iTunes, choose Help > Check for Updates.
If the issue continues with the latest version of iTunes, try following the steps below to reregister several .dll files, which may resolve this issue.
  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Highlight all of the following 10 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser: regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 /s gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 /s slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll

  3. Open the Notepad program by choosing
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
  4. In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
  5. From the File menu, choose Save As.
  6. In the File name field type appleitunes.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
  7. Close Notepad and locate the appleitunes.bat file. It should appear on the Desktop with the icon shown below: 305999_1.jpg
  8. Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
  9. The appleitunes.bat file can be deleted at this time.
  10. Open iTunes.
Additional Information Because some malware may unregister the .dll files, make sure you have the most recent updates to your anti-virus software and then do a full scan of your files.
