Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Notebook

Limited or no connectivity on a DELL PC

We aset up a new router (Linksys VoIP router with two phone ports). We have two laptops and desktop (all running XP) connected to the network, all work fine. We have problem with a DELL PC. The wireless card on the DELL PC detects the network, but it can not connect to the internet. We have setup a security key for the network, I typed the key correctly into the PC dialog box, it can not connect. I tried to renew the IP, it can not repair it I tired to use a cable connected to the PC ethernet port, same problem. So I would like to know what should I do next? So far the network works fine with all the ohter machines, I don't want to reset the router to disturb the network setup so the other machines can't connect to the internet. Thank you!

Have you run ipconfig to see what IP address the Dell laptop has? to do that, go to START->RUN and enter 'cmd' in the OPEN field, then press . A DOS window ill open. Type 'ipconfig /all' and press . You should see a list of all adapter and their IP addresses. An address that begins 254.169.##.## is a bogus address that can be assigned if DHCP can not assign a real address. Next type 'ipconfig /release' and press . It will take a minute or so, but you should see an address of all 0s. Next, shutdown the computer and let it set for a minute or two. Start the computer again and run ipconfig again to see if you have acquired an address.

Another thing that I have seen with Linksys routers and Dell laptops is that you need to manually enter the entire hexdecimal security code, or copy it to a jump drive and then paste it into the field. I have tried using the passphrase to generate to code, and the code shows up correctly in the box, but there was no connection until I manually entered the code.

Try these ideas and let me know what works and what doesn't. Good luck!

It sounds like you know what you are doing with most of this stuff.

It seems to me that the problem lies in the router that you are using. Some routers are programed to only accept a certain number of computers (they only have so many ip addresses to had out).

As a quick diagnostic of this problem, try removing or shutting down all the computers except the Dell, and then restart the router and the Dell.

If the Dell works now, you'll have to reprogram the router to accept more computers on your LAN.

good luck

First unplug your router, then unplug your modem and for 10 seconds. Next plug the modem back in and wait it to reboot(on mine this a series of 4 lights that light up in sequence, when the 4th light stops flashing, reboot is complete). Finally plug your router back in.

Hello,I have connected a linksys voip

Hello dandashi77,

I am using a Panasonic DECT 6.0 Series cordless phone. However, the VIATalk.com VOIP Services uses a LinkSys PAP2 adapter which can work with any type of phone. A Broadband connection is required to use the VIATalk.com VOIP service. Setup is very simple and the instructions areeasy to follow. Just a few simple things to do.

You could get another ethernet card from ebay for less than $10. Although, honestly, I don't think the port could have oxidized in 5 years. What is the error message(s)?

You need to register/subscribe to a VOIP provider first like Vonage and the likes. Then you need to register through your VOIP provider the phone ports of your router. ISP is different from VOIP.

Linksys SPA2102 interfearing with winmx/360 sharepro, frequently resetting connection

If your planning to connect the phone adapter behind a router make sure that the following ports are open/forwarded on the router; UDP ports 5060-5061, UDP ports 16384-32767 take note that 5060 and 5051 one are SIP ports and must be assigned to the IP address of that was assigned to by the router to the adapter or the IP that was manually configured on it.

I found a link that could help you check the setting on your linksys phone adapter

Hope this will help you solve your VOiP problem...

Siemens S765IP w/ router linksys wrt150n

What VoIP provider are you using?

Try connecting router directly to the modem and the laptop to the router and see if your laptop can get out onto the internet. If you cannot, then your router might not be handing out IPs to the devices on the internal network. You can enable the DHCP server on the router using the administrative web interface at http://192.168.1.1.

If you can get out onto the internet with your laptop behind your router then look at defining a DHCP reservation on your router for your VoIP phone and then forwarding the following to your phone:
5061 UDP
5060 UDP
10000-20000 UDP

These are common ports amonst the VoIP providers.

Hope this works, if not we'll give it another shot.
