SOURCE: Bobbin winding message

Under the top cover, on the right hand side where the bobbin winder is, there is a small switch which is activated when the bobbin is being wound. You will need to remove the cover and reposition the switch (it's located towards the front of the machine) to make it work properly.

Has the bobbin case dislodged and moved? there should be two red marks one on the bobbin case and one on the outer holder, are they lining up? Sometimes as these cases are held by a magnet, they will get dislodged and move slightly, especially in a jam up.
Take out the bobbin case and clean under it, then replace it matching up the red marks.

10_17_2011_5_44_09_am.jpg

If the bobbin case has actaully been struck by the needle during a dislodgement, it may well pierce the bobbin case plastic, look for burring or marks on the outer flange area. If this has occured, the thread may catch on the burr as it comes over the bobbin and jam again.

You can buy a new bobbin case if yours is damaged or maybe just file the burring with an emery board (remove it from the machine first of course).

Lastly, check your needle hasn't been bent, burred, or put in backwards, any of these can prevent a stitch from forming.

If all the above fails, then it is possible that the timing has been knocked out and you will need to get it serviced by a technician.

My Memorycraft 10000 is having difficulty spinning bobbins. When I load it up to spin, then start the process, the needle goes up and down, and the machine beeps and stops.

Hm, difficult to say. Perhaps the needle stop function for bobbin winding is not functioning properly. Perhaps taking it for service would be a good idea.

The other thing you can do is look for a stand-alone bobbin winder. They cost around $30-35 at the fabric stores (ie JoAnn's) or can be found online. Just verify first that it will take the bobbins for your machine. I have one and it's great because it saves wear n tear on my machine, plus I don't have to unthread my machine to wind the bobbin.

check the drive knob on the end of the machine
it should be loose when winding a bobbin
if it is tight or seized then that will drive the needle

I have a Mega Quilter and would like to stop the needle from working up and down when I wind my bobbins. Do I do this in the menu of the read out?

Most machines with a bobbin winder on them have a round knob inside of the machines flywheel. That's the wheel that turns when you sew.
TURN the inside knob forward or reverse to lock or unlock the main gears from turning the needle bar in the sewing motion.

Easy

When I wind a bobbin, it makes a screeching noise and the needle goes up and down. What step am I missing ?

On the right side is a big wheel and in the middle a smaller one. You need to unlock the smaller wheel so that the needle mechanism does not run when re-winding a bobbin. You need to use both hands to do it. Hold the bigger wheel and then loosen the inner wheel anti clock wise. Once you have finished loading your bobbin you need to tighten the inner wheel again for the machine to be fully functional again.

Wind bobbin frister rossman 420

Hi - if I understand your questions you're trying to wind a bobbin on the top, and haven't got as far as sewing yet.
To do this you usually have to put the bobbin on the top spool for it, and move that into position so that it turns.
To disengage the needle so it doesn't go up and down whilst you wind the bobbin up, on most machines you have part of the main drive wheel (on the far right) which turns against the rest of it, disengaging the part of the drive which powers the needle going up and down.
Or at least that's how it works on most machines.

Pfaff 2046 tension problems, needle breaks

Needle breaks
1.the needle is damaged
2.the needle is not correctly inserted
3.wrong size needle for the fabric
4.the wrong foot is attached
5.the needle clamp screw is loose
6. Top tension is too tight--loosen off one letter or number till the stitch
looks normal
7.make sure that every thread guide is used when winding the
bobbin,, so that the bobbin will wind tightly, if this doesn't help,,
then it's possible that the bobbin winder needs adjustment,, it needs
to be taken to a sewing machine shop

Bobbin stich is uneven and a tangled mess

you can dowload a manual from the singer website http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

If the bottom stitching is uneven, its mostly the top thread not under tension correctly so check the tension dial and the threading up from the thread spool to the needle.

Also, review how you wind a bobbin, you want a nice smooth wind, not twisting or uneven build across the bobbin. The manual for this machine is pretty brief on this but bobbin winding is crucial to getting a good even flow from the bobbin when stitching seams. You want to wind thread smoothly onto the bobbin, across the full width of it, not just mainly in the middle. Give the thread a nudge with your finger tip to fill top and bottom as it winds.

Also, ensure the thread goes through the bobbin tension disc on top of the machine, and even then, use your scissors handle to put some downward gentle pressure onto the thread spool you are winding off so it doesn't jump or bounce as you wind. Wind the bobbin to 3/4 full, then stop.

And lastly, load the bobbin correctly following the manual directions, make sure it is turning the right way in the bobbin case. Also look at page 16, it shows the "dangle" test where you can check the tension on the bobbin case is right, you should be able to dangle the bobbin by the thread tail and it should "stay" but you should be able to pull on it to release thread too. Adjust the little tension screw in minute increments to get this right. Bobbin case tension springs can fail or break too, so check this out.

Hope this helps you; it is my experience that 90% of machine issues are caused by blunt or wrong sized needles, wrong threading, no tension or incorrect tension or lack of maintenance.

Needle is moving when bobbin is winding & lights are flashing

Check the clutch at the knob on the right side of the machine, where you tighten it to sew & loosen it to wind a bobbin. It could be very loose and when you start to wind a bobbin, it tightens itself up.
