Question about Moen S3371 ExactTemp ¾” Thermostatic Rough-In Valve

Installed "upside down"

I have a problem regarding my recent installation of the Exacttemp shower valve: I accidentally installed the valve "upside down", meaning rotated 180 degrees, such that the tub outlet now faces up, and the shower outlet faces down. I capped the down-facing shower outlet and am using the original tub outlet (facing up) only, regulated by three flow valves (to shower, tub, and handheld). My question is: If I adapt the hot and cold water inlets, can I leave the valve in upside down or do I need to redo the install? Thanks for all and any help!

1st Check the temperature restricting coller behind the cover under the handle. It is used to restrict the flow of hot water to stop you from being scaulded.
2nd Those set screws will control the flow. Check to ensure both sides are open the same amount of turns. If the water pressure is good turn in the cold side.

Remove handle to gain acess to the temperature limit stop. Remove handle and pull out handle adapter kit and next there is a dail that can be adjusted to control the water to balance the temp. It could have been installed wrong, pay attention to where it is now and pull it back to it disengages out of the stem and move it counter clockwise a little and reinstall. Put handle on and test water for correct movement.

I installed a Tuscany shower valve and the hot and cold are reversed. I didn;t change any of the piping and hope there is a way to adjust with the cartridge. Help!


I am not familiar with that valve, but I hope I can offer some help. It may be that you installed the valve upside down. Every shower valve I have ever installed has writing on the back that says; UP. If you still have access to the rough-in valve, you may want to check that. Also, if it is installed upside down, you can try to pull the cartridge, flip it and reinstall it. That does not work with all cartridges, but it is worth trying if the rough-in is installed upside down.

Moen cartridge is 90 degrees off


Cartridge has been installed upside down. Remove, spin 180 degrees and re-install.

My Moen exacttemp thermostatic shower goes to either hot or cold - can't figure out how to control the temp. This was just installed and the installer didn't provide instructions.


Your meon shower has a carriage the handle is attached to, sounds like there might be something in it or the carriages is warn and needs replacing.

Water came out both shower head and tub spout (even w/o spout)


The shower valve is clearly mark "UP" when you look at it from the front.

Hot and cold oscillations on my deva envy shower


no man i installed plenty of shower valves if your in the shower looking at it the left is hot always just make sure ur holding it right side up most of them have a plug that goes in the bottom to block the tub spout and the top goes to the shower are maby u put it in upside down? good luck man if you run in to another prob, post again good luck

Not able to pull up the shower valve


The valve is in upside down. Sounds like the shower head runs all the time and thats what fills the tub? The valve needs to be flipped OR the diverter in the valve needs to be switched to the other side of the valve. If this is a one handled valve it is installed upside down. UP is indicated on the valve.

The valve can be reused just turned over.

Shower/spout


The valve is installed upside down and needs to be reversed. There is a diverter in the valve that gives the spout priority. When the valve is upside down it gives the shower head priority. Thats why it runs without the diverter being activated. You will need to get in the wall from one side or the other. Cut the valve out and either flip the faucet Or change the direction of the diverter depending on the style of valve.
