Could be interferences from electrical appliances : fridges, microwave ovens, television screens or crts, power lines running close by. Also the tuning may not be optimal.

A humming noise comes on when I turn on my radio, as I accelarate the numming gets louder naot enough to not hear the radio but it's bothering.

the humming noise could be caused by your alternator, you might have a bad connection in the radio wiring or the aerial lead or the aerial itself could be faulty....hope this helps....cheers

Uniden 520xl makes humming noise when mike is keyed

if you have a power mic , you might have it turned up to high. next make sure you have a good ground on your antenna. if that is ok and you still have the same problem have the swr checked. this should fix the fm radio noise.

Low Hum Noise in Bearcat III Scanner

Yes, it does sound like a bad power transformer. Try powering it using a DC supply or battery and see if the hum goes away.

Humming noise

If this is like my unit it is a high pitched squeal. I received my unit as a gift for Christmas 2007 and I thought it was defective. I contacted Homedics and they sent me a replacement but the problem persisted. As licensed amateur radio operator I am versed in electronics so I decided to track down the source of the noise. It turns out that the 16VDC power adapter is the source of the noise. It is what is called a "switching power supply" and is unfortunately not well filtered causing the high pitched squeal. I was able to get rid of the noise by modifying the power adapter and adding a 2200 microfarad capacitor in parallel with the output. This filters out the high frequency ripple and gets rid of the squeal. An alternative solution would be to search the Internet for a better 16VDC power adapter. It must supply 2 amps of power and have a 5.5mm OD/2.1mm ID center positive power connector.

Humming noise when turned on

Annebatiste:
Humming almost always comes from DC supply problems.A leaky SCR [silicon control recitfiter] transistor [used in a/c to dc power supply], leaky Capacitor [large metal type for heavy voltage\current], bad or value changed bias for SCR transistor, value changed filter resistor and loose transformer[Xformer] that the coils INSIDE vibrate sending a radio frequency [R\F] SIGNAL (like a radio station) into the audio amp section or right into the speakers causing the hum.
Check entire power supply, all filter capacitors, coils, chokes ,transformers (somtimes used to push signal into speakers)

Bose Wave radio humming noise

Actually the problem was caused by a bad 470uf cap, that was used to filter the powersupply for all the analog amps. Replaced the cap the unit works like new.
