Question about Boating

How do I bleed and change the hydraulic trim fliud in my 75 hs Mariner outboard? I believe that I had an airlock, I opened the pit screws, and the motor was able to go back down. It appeared that there wasn't any fluid in the trim motor. I need to know exactly how to fill the chamber and not have a reacurrence. Thanks! wiederhorn@aol.com

Power trim on 175 mercury mariner outboard does not stay up, it slowly goes down by itself what can I do to fix the problem?

problem in the control valves for the up/down hydraulics
indicates a leak either in the valve or in the ram seals or cylinder damage
you will need to get it to a shop that is accredited with that system ( mercury service center)

Suzuki DT40CR Outboard stuck in down position

There is a hydraulic "unlock" screw somewhere on the side of the power trim reservoir.. usually easily accessible with a flat blade screwdriver... just turn it out about 3/4 - 1 turn.. no more... this will bypass the system and allow you to pull up your outboard.

How do i top up the lubricating oil in the hydraulics of a mercury outboard engine

I suppose you mean the oil in the Trim system...

Lift the engine all the way up,
Place the jackstand to keep the engine fully up.
You'll see a plastic plug in the center cylinder.
Unscrew that plug. ( There can be some pressure, take care of your eyes!)
Fill with ATF-oil till the level is at the bottom of the plug hole.
Screw the plug back in.
Lower the engine.
Done!

Why does my mercury outboard idle perfectly but stall out under load?

Your carbs are probably dirty. Remove the carbs and clean out all jets and passages with carbcleaner and compressed air.

Whats the firing order on a mercury 500 thunderbolt marine engine ?

Remove the 4 spark plugs , number 1 is the top piston so put it to tdc then with a screw driver feel through each plug hole for which is the next piston to come up to tdc etc etc till you have written the order ! 1,2,4,3 or 1,3,4,2 !!

The trim/tilt on my 97 Johnson 150 outboard is not moving. Tilt motor runs. Some time ago my mechanic told me not to run the tilt all the way to the top, which is, I think, what happened. Any ideas on...

Make sure there is not a spring loaded locking lift latch engauged. If there is you will see a little movement and then the motor will sound slower. If there is no movement and the motor runs the same speed with no change you are low on hydraulic tilt and trim fluid.

Please take a moment and rate my answer............ Thanks

The Covertable top button does nothing, The relay has been replaced and the fuses are good unless there are some I do not know about.

Do you hear the motor running? If yes, then it could be the fluid level in hydraulic unit.

To check the hydraulic unit:
- Remove luggage compartment trim.
- Open convertible top once and close again to bleed the system.
- Convertible top must be closed.

If you have another way of bleeding the hydraulic unit, then do it and make sure to bleed the hydraulic unit.

Good luck!

1992 150hp merc black max and hydraulics won't work, sounds like a sick animal.

On the bottom of the trim/tilt cylinder there is a big white slotted head screw usually located on the right side. Turn that out about 3 turns. Have someone help you manually lift the engine and while it is up tighten that screw back up and it should stay. From there you can check your trim lines and check the Cylinder for leaks. Also check to make sure that there is no water in the system. Once the engine is all the way up just engage the tilt lock and you will be able to do anything that you need to without fear of the engine bleeding back down.
