Why is it hard to push?

Lester,
It could be a couple of things, first, I would remove the five screws that hold your base plate on and look at your brush. At each end of the brush you have a bearing block and there are two different height settings. If you see several "hash" marks on the top of the block, it is in the new setting position and you need to rotate the block 180 degrees so that there is only one "hash" mark showing and then put the brush back on and put the belt back in place and replace the base plate and screws and then try the vacuum and see if that helps. If you only see the one "hash" mark when you take the base plate off, then you need a new brush roller. This would also be a good time to put in a new belt as well if you have not replaced in in a while. You could also have a problem pushing your vacuum if you recently replaced your carpet and you have a real thick pile. Oreck does make a high pile attachment that can be mounted on the bottom of most of their models, but you will need your model number so that you get the right one. Hope this helps!

My oreck xl21 won't pull itself.

You need to rotate your brush or replace the brush. Lay your Oreck down, unplugged with the base plate facing up. Remove the 5 screws that hold the plate on and remove the plate. Look at the bearing blocks at each end of the brush, what you are going to be3 looking for are a series of "hash" marks on the black plastic mount. If you see several, rotate the block until you only see one mark at each end and reinstall the brush and belt and that should take care of your issue. If you only see one mark, you need a new brush roller. Hope this helps!

How do you replace the mico-sweep blade that is broke

Most of the time, you cannot get a new one of those blades unless you replace the entire base plate. Depends on the model that you have. I would suggest checking with a local vacuum repair shop to see if they can help you. If you go to Oreck's website Oreck Store Locator you can see if you have one near you.

Motor hums but not turn

I would guess that you picked up something that should not have been picked up and it is caught in the fan blade area. Turn your vacuum over and take out the screws holding the base plate on and remove the base plate. Remove the two screws holding the motor and then remove the screws holding the intake nozzle, there could be only one or there could be as many as 3 depending on what model Oreck you have. Once you have the screws out you can pull the intake nozzle off and see if there is anything stuck in the fan housing. If there is pull it out and re-assemble all the pieces and that should take care of it. On rare occasions the bearings can go bad in the motor and if that is the case you will need to replace the motor. I would suggest taking it to an authorized repair dealer and they can check to see if the motor needs to be replaced and also tell you if it would be under warranty. Hope this helps!

Oreck vacuum is smoking and the roller is not turning. vacuum is turning on and inflating well.

Sounds like the roller is jammed up. The motor keeps driving the belt, but for some reason the belt cant drive the roller. The smoke is coming from the belt, Clean the junk out from the roller.

I bought a replacement brushroll because the one in the vaccum cleaner is worn out.How do I go about putting the brush in the vaccum cleaner. Do I pull it out or do I have to unscrew the entire bottom...

Greetings from GoVacuum,

Make sure the vacuum is NOT plugged in. In order to replace the roller brush, you'll need to unscrew the 6 screws on the bottom plate of the vacuum cleaner. Oreck uses a Phillips Head screw, so you'll need to get a Phillips head screw driver to replace the brush.

After removing the screws from the bottom plate, simply pull up on the plate by putting your fingers into the open area where the existing brush is located. After the bottom plate has been removed you will have access to the roller brush and belt.

You can now just grab the roller brush and pull straight up on it. It's beneficial to change the belt of the vacuum when you're replacing the roller brush anyways. There is a spare belt on the actual bottom plate of all Oreck XL vacuums.

You'll notice that the new roller brush has two black square plastic caps on both sides of the roller brush. You can look on the outside of this black cap, and you'll see the words OLD and NEW. Rotate the NEW side so it's facing upwards, and the OLD side is the side that's down inside the vacuum cleaner, make sure that both sides have the NEW side facing upwards. You'll need to wrap the belt around the silver pin in the back of the vacuum on one side, and through the roller brush's metal pulley on the other side. The just stretch the belt with the brush inside of it, and place the black plastic parts back into the vacuum cleaner.

Congratulations, you've now just replaced the roller brush in your Oreck!

Older Oreck XL, new belt, new bag, checked for clogs, does not pick up
as it used to, and, much harder to push, seems to grab or drag, why????

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are a couple of things that may work. Depending on if you have the old style brushroll you can upgrade to a new style Oreck brushroll that has twice the brushes and will a work a lot smoother. Also, clean the bottom plate – get rid of any dust and dirt build up and then spray the bottom with silicone and let it dry after you have totally cleaned it. Always use Oreck genuine belts and to change the belt every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and store the extra Oreck belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator, other wise if you have a new belt, gag, you have checked for clogs there is no reason why it should be hard to push, if the silicone does not work replace the bottom plate.

Replace belt on my oreck xl

Either have to take the bottom plate off, or there is a small door with one screw to remove to replace the belt. Then it goes around the motor shaft and then over the pulley on the brush roll.
