Question about Samsung 61" Slim-Depth DLP HDTV

Fan noice and picture distortion...

Samsung DLP HL-P6163WX purchased in late 2004 and has worked GREAT up until a few months ago. Clearly "a" fan was straining and the TV would have a difficult time turning on. Once on, after a few attempts, it seemed to ease it's way to normalcy. Happens most of the time now and yesterday, TV was on most of the day and we began to get a very funny picture, over time we lost the picture. I turned the TV off the remainder of the night and tried it again this AM. It worked fine for a few hours and then began to act up (funny/distorted colors, whining noise, etc.)

Worked great but has recently began turning off on its own. If you unplug, tv resets and functions again. Still has great sound and pic when working.

Samsung p6163wx - lamp sign flashing with a loud noise fan on, no picture. Replaced with a new bulb - did not solve the problem

This set may use a color wheel if it has a lamp. A bad color wheel will make a fan like or high pitched sound.

If the wheel actually shatters (it can) the set will not function and will turn the lamp off.

See photo of color wheel and if you need to know I can tell you how to look at it.

I've a Samsung DLP Model HLR-4266WX that has started to hum and is distorting the picture. I've replaced the cooling fan on the heat sink in the back and that didn't work. Is there another fan in the set...

Color wheel would be cause of hum noise and distorted picture on screen.
Please note that color wheel is not user level repair and requires expertise because it is located in light engine, the most sensitive and expensive part of dlp tv.
If you are good with electronics stuff fix then have service manual copy in hand to start inspecting color wheel.

Samsung HL-R6768W started making squeal noise from rear of TV. At same time lost picture and will not come back on. Sound is ok and you can hear light trying to turn on. Can fan motor not working correctly...

Look at the fan and verify its comming from the fan and not the power supply unit, you can clean the fan or replace it, but yes the fan would be likly the problem. Make sure you double check the power supply unit and clean if its needed,

Samsung DLP HLR5668W has mostly dark picture + grinding noise

Pix looks like a light pipe issue, inside the Light Engine. as far as the shutting down, could be a bad fan causing the grinding and when stopps the DMD turns the set off.
