Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Won't start up.

Tried all the usual things, system restore: restoring to manufacturers default etc. But all that happens when you push the power switch is a command prompt in the corner. Don't know what to try next?

This is usually the result of not finding an operating system, or finding an incomplete operating system.

Do you have any disks in the disk drives? If so, remove them. Also, if you have plugged in any USB devices at all, unplug those too.

If the machine still does not boot any better than you have described, it's time to look at the BIOS settings and make sure the computer can find the hard drive.

Good luck.

I clicked completely restore system to factory defaults, but it does not respond

It's probably wanting you to insert some restore discs into the cd/dvd drive.

Some manufacturers leave it up to you to create the restore discs when you first purchase the system. Some put it on the hard drive for you, which sounds like is not your case. Don't sweat it because most times the restore discs that users have to create don't work.

Have you tried doing a System Restore? Click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Select a Restore Point (date and time) before you started having problems. Unlike System Recovery that takes you back to factory defaults and deletes everything, System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the Restore Point you selected).

If System Restore does not work for you, then you can always Reinstall your Operating System.

The problem is when click on application program it displays fatal error message of error opening driver file how can i fix this?

Is this happening on any program you click on? If so it means a virus has changed your program file associations.

Click Start/Control Panel/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore
When system restore opens select a date and time that was before this problem started happening. Let the system restore run to completion.
Don't worry, System Restore does not destroy any of your data, documents, music, pictures or videos. System Recovery destroys everything and sets the computer back to when you first purchased it.

If the virus won't let you start system restore then turn off your computer and turn it back on, start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Select the safe mode option and when it boots up click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and from there select a date and time that was before you started having the problem.

If you still have a problem after doing the restore, report back and there is about 30 different little programs you will have to run to get your program file associations set back to their default settings.

Only comes on when touching the actual power button, not working when pushing the PS button on the controllers. When on, there's no menu, just the wavy blue background, after a few minutes, it says it...

Ironically this happened to me just the other day. What I ended up doing was a complete reset/format. You will lose some data so I hope you have a back up.

Press and hold the power button until the light on the playstation goes red again.
Let off the power button and press again, hold it until you hear two fast beeps.
Once you hear the beeps release the button.
Plug your controller in via the USB cable.
It will now bring you to a recovery menu.

It will give you these options:

  • estart System:
    • Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.

  • Restore Default Settings:
    • Reset all system settings back to default.

  • Restore File System:
    • Checks for corrupt/missing system files.

  • Rebuild Database:
    • Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.

  • Restore PS3 System:
    • Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.

  • System Update:
    • Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System
You CAN try restore file system but since you said it froze, it probably won't work again...but you can give it a shot. It didn't work for me. What I ended up having to do was "Restore PS3 System". This will format everything and start from scratch.

Also, another quick fix that you can try would be to pop open the ps3 hard drive case, remove the drive and plug it back in to ensure that it's properly seated.

If none of these work you may have a dead hard drive and it will need to be replaced.

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

My garmin does everything except it justsays locatingthe satelite, but it never goes any further all other things work sound screen etc

First make sure you are in an open area free of trees and other objects, Then turn the unit completely off and wait 30 second then turn it back on, this should now start looking for satelite again and should locate.(This usually only happens around tall buildings or inside a building or other structure such as a house)

I dont have a cursor, unable to log on computer. my computer was frosen, i tried to restore it, when the laptop came back up, there was no cursor. unable to log on laptop, keys are not working.

1.START BUTTON> RUN>TYPE IN %temp% >and then hit enter and select all the folders in this windows and delete it
2.START BUTTON>RUN> TYPE IN prefetch and then hit enter and select all the folders in this windows and delete it
3.start button>run box type in cleanmgr.exe and select the drive usually operating c and try cleaning the files
If this does not help then take your laptop to the day when the laptop was working fine by doing a system restore
system restore can restore within a period of 90 days
if then this will be the path to system restore
start>all programs>accesories>system tools>system restore
if not then get the recovery or the restore disc from the manufacturer and take the computer to factory condition.
have a nice day!!!

Semicolon problem

Have you tried restoring the system to original manufacturer's default from the restore CD? also before you do that try to get another keyboard and see if it happens with a different keyboard, it might be the key that is stuck or really sensative.
if you don't have the system restore disk, you may find it at the technical support website for this specific workstation.

Restore to factory default

Perform a system recovery:
Acer computer's do not ship with recovery CD's - there is a program that allows you to burn the disks or recover.
3 ways to recover:

1. If in Windows - Start - Programs - Acer empowering technology - Acer E-recovery management -
click on Restore at bottom then "Restore to factory default settings"
2. Or click on Burn disks instead of Restore
3. If unable to boot into Windows then tap Alt/F10 during boot right after Acer splash screen when starting up the computer.
4. This will start the Acer E-recovery program - choose Factory Default Settings and follow instructions.
