Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet
It has a power cord but I have no idea where it goes. No spot for it! Will not power up. The manual is on the hard drive there fore I can not find out anything about it. There are 2 more cords not sure what for. I need a manual and don't know where to find it. The warrant of 60 days sent me here. Please help.
Look on the Internet for a manual for the machine. It sounds as if the power cord should go to a power block which you haven't got and which then plugs into the machine.
Is the Acer a PC or a laptop? PC power sockets are at the back, laptops ditto but are much smaller, usually round.

Although not sold at Best Buy™, there are available adapters/cables to
make this transfer possible. I recommend using a search engine to find
"firewire to usb." Hopefully this will give you the results you need.

The power cord connects to a little circuit board inside the case, and the hard drive itself connects to the board. I would think that if you damaged anything it would be the board but not the drive. You could try taking the drive out of the case and connecting it directly to your computer (or you could get a computer shop or computer geek friend to do it if you don't feel up to it). If the drive itself isn't damaged you will be able to read your data.

SOURCE: Not working
The only help I can offer is to suggest trying another power adapter first. I've serviced several Maxtor external drives that lit up but wouldn't spin (just clicked), and the trouble turned out to be the power adapter was just too weak. If the adapter is okay, the trouble might be on the interface board inside the case. You would need to remove the drive from its enclosure and connect it directly to a PC power supply to check it out. If the drive itself is in fact faulty, your only option is to contact a data retrieval company to see if they can recover the data from your drive. Be warned: this is an expensive operation.

I just today ordered a new power supply adapter for my Smartdisk Crossfire 250 gb hard drive (I had a broken pin on my original one). Paid $29 plus shipping. We'll see if it arrives this coming week. If you still need one, here's a link to it:
