I need more info about the machine. Does it make any noise when the start button is pressed, if you can hear the motor turning then more than likely your belt is either after slipping off the drum or breaking. you should be able to access the belt either by the back of the macine or the top to see if the belt is broke or just after slipping. Another problem it could be is that the capacitor in your macine could have blown. To test this you press start, open the door of the machine, spin the drum by hand and close the door before the drum comes to a stop, if the drum continues to rotate after you close the door then you know it is the capacitor that is blown, this needs to be replaced either by an electrician or a specialist as it is possibe to connect the capacitor wrong and the result would be the capacitor exploding damaging your hand. Always plug out the machine before opening the top or back of the machine.

SOURCE: Washer makes loud thumping after finished spin cycle

Remove washer cabinet (easy to remove)and check that "base pads" (there are 3 pads, located under the main tub)are not worn. In case they are worn (even one of them), you should replce them all. Good luck !!

SOURCE: My washer is out of balance when spinning.

Hi,
Your problem is probably much more than the washer being out of balance. The front load washers have shock absorbers that hold them from moving all over the place. These have a habit of breaking. Then the drum hammers and sounds like things are flying apart. Pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go throuhg are where they will break. Sometimes at first they look okay and you have to grab them and move them to see that they are broken.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Washer will kick in spin cycle, but with any type of heavy load will not spin , most times will spin if helped to get going by hand, will spin good empty or with light load.

Good day,
Without the model number or make, makes it pretty hard to come up with a solution, but if it's not a Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, Roper, or Kenmore direct drive top loader,
Remove the front panel and check the belt and tensioner.
Also, on occasion, water, and or possibly oil from an oil leak out of the bottom seal of the transmission can get on the belt and cause slippage.

P.S. On older Whirlpool and Kenmore washers, they did use a belt and you accessed it from a panel on the rear.
Belt might need adjusted, or in some cases the clutch simply wore out. Not a practical repair.

Roper washer RAX4232PQO doesn't agitate or spin

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is a common problem that usually occurs through normal wear and tear. Replacement couplers are more resilient and resist breaking much better. If the washer will fill, will not agitate or spin, but will still drain, these are the symptoms of a broken motor coupling. The accompanying noise of the motor engaging and a rattling/grinding sound is also a common symptom. This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

Washer is loud, and won't spin or agitate

check the motor bushes, and also check for bearings in drum you can check this by lifting the inner drum up and down if you feel a knocking noise then this will be the bearings have worn.

Washer makes noises

You said, when the washer is going into spin cycle it makes a loud clunking noise. You are wondering if this could be the brakes or possibly the pump?

Sounds like this!

Faulty direct drive Coupling (Whirlpool / Kenmore / Roper / Estate)
The direct drive (motor) Coupling may be broken. Many Whirlpool/Kenmore brands washing machines utilize a small, relatively inexpensive direct drive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other.

It can wear out over time or fail under overloading conditions. This protects your transmission from excessive loading.
it can also be a broken spring or strut dependping on your washes make and type
