i have the same problem light engine for 46hm95 toshiba tv dlp. light engine is 456.00 + tax 189.00 to install. can anyone find light engine cheaper? There should be a class action law suit against toshiba for this problem. Seems many people have had the same one, just like the problem they have with the light bulb. Called toshiba they do not want to know anything, its 2 years old and out of warranty. What can we do?

My toshiba is just 2 years old, and I've already replaced the bulb once, and I'm using low power. Now I have a new problem, the colors are going in and out...I've reset the bulb thinking it could be bad contacts, but the problem continues.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a new lcd tv. Oh and one more thing, I'll never....buy another toshiba product again. period..I'm very pissed about this.

I have a Toshiba 46HM95 the screen flickers and colors fade as TV warms up. I am in the same boat as everyone else from the sounds of it. I paid about $1700 dollars for the TV 2 years ago. The bulb went out after about 6 months and after about 18 months the picture started to go. For the last 6 months it has been a very expensive dust collector, I can't really afford to drop the money into fixing it and I don't know that I want to if it is likely to happen again in the near future. I bought a Samsung 61" about a year ago and I am much happier with it. I don't think I'll ever buy a Toshiba again!

I've had the same problem with my toshiba 46hm95. after 6 months the light blew out and just before 2 years old the light engine went. I called toshiba and after a week of arguing with them they covered the cost of the light engine $500.00 the only problem is that the light engine was on back order and it took 7 weeks to get it in. im still out the $350.00 for the repair and was without a tv for a month. The t.v. was out of warranty so i guess im lucky they gave me that. I would never buy a toshiba product AGAIN!!

I have a 52HM84 and the bulb went 30 days ago. I bought a new bulb for $240 canadian and put it in and now 30 days later the tv keeps power cycling and according to the trouble sheet it says it's the lamp not working. I called where I bought the lamp and was told it was the light engine and that it's a common problem on this model. They want $389 for the part and didn't get a price to install as it's a 2 year old tv and just don't want to sink any more money into it.

I'm sickened to see so many other people having the same problem at about the same age and I agree Toshiba should do somethign about this. My call to them all I got was sorry it's out of warranty .. sorry it's out of warranty.

No more Toshiba products for me!

Four months after buying the t.v. engine light went out. Fixed under warranty. One year and ten months later, same noise, same problem. Now it will cost 760.00 dollars out of warranty. Toshiba will not try and resolve any issue of the problem. All they say is (It's out of Warranty!)

I have a Toshiba 46" DLP and after 8 months the bulb goes out. A year and 5 month later the light engine goes out. While replacing that light engine it spends almost 2 month in the shop replacing 3 more light engines until the fourth one work for about 6 month. Now we are going on its fifth light engine in a 6 month period. This is getting old and an problem I get to live. Amazing!

I own a 52Hm95 Toshiba HDLP, that listed at the time for$ 2995.00. I am currently on my fifth lamp, originally cleaned my color wheel assembly about eight months ago, it ran great till about a month ago and finally died, Ordered a rebuilt one, installed it, and its playing very well. So in the 2!/2 years, the cost to own this set,is almost the cost to replace it these days..

I have a 50" Toshiba HD DLP Projection TV. The light engine went out after about 1 1/2 years. It cost about $500 for the LE and several hundred for labor and it took a couple of weeks to get it done. It was replaced about 3 months ago. I am now experiencing the exact same problems with this light engine. I will trash the tv and never buy another Toshiba again. This stinks!

We had the same problem with the light engine. My wife used the nice approach with toshiba, unlike me and after about two weeks of making sure we used the repair people they recommended, and faxing things back and forth, they agreed to cover the part but not labor. The labor was about 300 dollars using their recommended service people. Its been working fine now its about 5 weeks. I have one tip for the problem with the light bulb burning out. The repairman said its starting up that causes the problem. Rule of thumb do not keep turnig it on and off unless you are going to leave it on for at least 45 minutes. Hope this helps.

We had the same problem with the light engine going. After about a week of me arguing with toshiba, my wife used the nice approach and was able to get them to cover the part but not the labor. We had to use their reccomendation for service in our area which turned out to be the most expensive of course. It was obout 300 dollars for labor, but its been working fine for 5 weeks now. For those of you having the light bulb problem, I have a tip. The repairman said starting up is hardest on the bulb, not how long its been on. Rule of thumb do not keep turning it on and off, unless you are going to leave it on for 45 minutes or longer. Hope this helps!

On a 44NHM84 picture slowly darkened over a year. Changed the bulb - no difference. Opened up the light tunnel and one reflector mirror was badly corroded. Stuck on a piece of Plate glass mirror and alls well.

Replacing the light take about 1 minutes. Open the side door on the left. Take a scrwe driver and remove the 2 screws (not fully) and slide out the lamp. ...that all. Tu re-install new lamp, just slide it in , tight the two screws...and you saved 500$

Same problem here with the 46HM95. Bulb went out 3 times within the first year of owning it. The first time, I was told the bulb was on back order and would take roughly 3 weeks to come in. Reason given for back order: It was during the Christmas season.. Toshiba bulbs must've been a pretty popular gift in '05 :) After the 3rd bulb went out, called Toshiba and talked with them about replacing the entire TV. I was told by their agent and supervisor that they do not have to honor the Lemon Law.. Only the place where I bought it from, then hung up on me when I said that was untrue. The light engine(color wheel) has been humming very loudly for the past year, and occasionaly stops working and the picture goes from red, blue, green until it stops, then tv resets. Nothing but problems.. Not to mention the constant 34w of power it uses when it's in stand-by mode.. That's only about $50 extra a year on the electric bill, but still.. 34w?? A class action lawsuit sounds good. I've had the TV for about 2.5 yrs and it's only worked correctly for the first 3 months.

UPDATE: as i posted before i have a toshiba 46hm95 with the same problems as everyone else. my light engine blew and it was out of warranty. after calling and calling them speaking to managers toshiba covered the cost of the light engine $500.00. the only problem i had to cover the cost of the labor . that was fine with me since it was out of warranty. now 2 weeks went by with out the tv and i got a call from toshiba telling me that the light engine was on back order. after 7 week waiting for the part and another week waiting for the place to fix it. i got the tv back put it back into the living room pluged it in and it worked for 15 minutes. YES 15 MINUTES. i took it back to the shop and come to find out the light engine that toshiba shipped them was bad. YES BAD. they shipped a junk light engine. so again i called them back to find out the light engine was on back order.so toshiba called me and offered me a refurb t.v. can i please have the same tv with the same problems. i will NEVER buy a toshiba product again!!!!!!!!!!!!

$500 for part is a little high, but $500 for labor is alot high!  Call other shops and ask them for pricing now that you know the problem.

More than likely, as with almost EVERY 46HM95, it's your light engine or color wheel (same thing) starting to go out. The piece alone will run between $500 and $750.. Install prices depend on where ya go. And don't let the Toshiba rep lie to ya. That person might not have known the problem, but Toshiba as a whole has heard about this problem and known about it. If you've searched the internet for the same problem, you'll see that almost everyone that has bought this TV gets the same response from Toshiba "Never heard of it" or "it's out of warranty, tough luck" I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit yet.
