SOURCE: Whirlpool Refrigerator or freezer Doesnot cool

Typically with this model it is either the defrost timer or the defrost thermostat which has stopped working. In short your refrigerator is not cycling through its normal defrost cycle every 8 to 10 hours.

The temporary fix to the manually defrost the freezer section by unplugging the unit overnight or gently heating the back for the freezer with a hair dryer until all of the ice is gone. The frost will gradually build up again until the problem reoccurs (usually 1 to 2 weeks)

Most of the testing to confirm the fault requires a multimeter for testing electrical circuits.

The problem shows behind the back wall of the freezer. There will be thick frost build up on the silver element. (do not chip it off since any damage to the silver coils can result in a huge repair bill. On one side of the silver coil assembly there is a component that is designed to open when the heater gets hot enough. This part is about the size of a stack of 6 quarters and typically has a blue end coating on one end. The other end is silver in colour and should be clipped on or near the heating element. It will have 2 wires coming out of the blue end.

If this part is defective then it will have to be replaced. by cutting a splicing a new one in. Be sure to unplug the fridge before replacing it.

The heater and timer are simply unplugged and replaced with a new part is defective.

There are 3 main components that can give issues; the timer, the thermostat and the heater. All 3 should be checked to confirm the fault.

SOURCE: refrigerator section not getting cold - air vents

Evaporator fan may not be running. This fan distributes cold air throughout the freezer and to the refrigerator. The fan is likely located behind an access plate at the top of the freezer. If it's running, you should be able to hear it. If you can't hear it, open the access plate and look at it. If it's not turning, you will likely have to replace the fan motor.

Freezer gets cold, upper refrigerator does not. Looks like there is an opening for cold air to come into the refrigerator, it isn't blocked. Air just isn't rising from freezer to fridge.

you have bad fan motor, located behind freezer wall, accessible from the front inside freezer, lots of disassembly required-awkward repair, but worth it

Fridge doesn't work but freezer does

This is a most common problem it can be only due to how you're setting the two controls, you may think one is for the freezer and one is for the fridge,in a sence it can be true but in fact it is not. The bottom part we call the refrigerator is only a empty box and the cooling is coming from the top freezer through a hole covered by a slid which can wide open or close the hole . And this control they call freezer control and when you set this freezer control to the coldest accuraly you are closeing the hole and not letting too much cold air coming down to the refrigerator , now you've a very cold freezer but a warmer refrigerator so if you want a colder refrigerator you've to wide open the slid and letting more cold air coming from the freezer. You can try out this by putting your hand over the air outlet in the refrigerator and then turn the freezer control, and you'll feel the cool air coming stronger or weaker by truning the freezer control. This is what I would do first before going in to check the defrost cycle . Hope this help, have a nice day God Bless.

Refrigerator not cold/Freezer cold.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp .

.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Hotpoint CTF15ELD top freezer refrigerator - freezer O.K. refrig too warm

It's likely the door was inadvertently left open, and the cold air passages from the freezer have built up enough ice that the cold air from the freezer has no way to enter the refrigerator. Check the cealing of the refrigerator. If you can see or feel ice in the passages between the freezer and fridge, you can probably solve the problem by finding a safe temporary home for your food, and leaving the refrigerator unplugged overnight.

Wont get cold

check to see if there is excessive frost build up inside of the freezer on the back panel. If so you may have a defrost problem or your fan motor in the freezer may be bad. Open the drawer to the freezer and see if the fan comes on when you push the light switch. What brand is this unit?

Kitchenaid refrigerator w/bottom freezer french doors

please check the air flow to the refrigerator side. it could be a stuck damper motor or damper thermostat. if the fan inside the freezer is running, you should be able to feel cold air coming out off the vents in the refrigerator side. you might have to press the button light switch on the panels to run the fan.
