SOURCE: I have a veranda stainless grill, two of the legs

Same problem, used foil for a while, but eventually I called Masterbuilt customer service and ordered a new flame bowl for $19.99 + shipping, and replaced it.

My Bar B Chef grill grates are totally rusted. Are stainless steel grates better or should I stick with cast iron?

I prefer cast iron. Cast iron heats more evenly and retains temperature better. If they are falling apart from rust, junk them. If they just have surface rust and no holes, all you have to do is brush them with a steel brush at high heat. Wipe them off with a wet rag and then rub it with an onion to provide a teflon layer. if it is really heavy rust, spray oven cleaner on them and hose off. After use or for storage, clean them and then wipe them down with a cooking oil soaked rag. The oil will reduce rust build up.

The grill grates have to be replaced often because the porcelain comes off. Where can I get another kind of grate to fit the CGB36ru since your price of about $70 times six is very expensive. What keeps...

Hi steve tell...
I would measure the inside of the grill and go to a welding shop and have them make me a stainless steel grate made from expanded metal that would fit my grill and never go back to the porcelain coated grills and their sticking, cracking, rusting again.
It will be somewhat expensive, but it will be worth it and it will be a one time purchase.
Most of the porcelain grills get faults in the porcelain from heating and cooling that allows greases and salts from cooking to seep into and get behind the porcelain to rust the steel grills that the porcelain is bonded to.
That is what causes the porcelain to pop off...the rust.

Weber silver b. cooking grate has rusted. what is it made of. terrible!

Steel with either a black porcellian finish or a chrome finish. Depends on the model.

Stainless Steel or Cast Iron is my personal favorite. It wears extremely well and is easy to clean.

I'm trying to locate a replacement coal grate (perferably in stainless steel) . Can you supply one? Thanks tlynch@inficon.com

Sorry, we don't sell anything on FixYa. However, if you get the dimensions of the grate you needand search around on Google for some the Grill Parts & Accessories sites and you're more than likely to find what you need. I will caution you, Stainless Steel Grates are expensive. Plus, they do not do well with charcoal. The charcoal gets so hot against, that it will pop and pit. It's not like doing it on a gas grill, where the heat is moist and the stainless retains it's integrity. Unlike coal or charcoal, which is an extremely dry heat. You may be better off with Cast Iron. Once it's seasoned, it should do better than Stainless Steel.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks/

We definitely neglected this bbq. After last summer..leaving it with meat drippings and water which molded the entire inside of the grill as well as rusted the metal on the grate and the tray underneath...

Morgan, unfortunately, it has passed the point of taking better care of it this summer. In addition to replacing the grates, you will probably have to replace the burner(s) and the venturi valve(s), as well as the tray underneath. It will cost you just as much to replace all the parts (if you can find them) , as it would be to replace the grill with something equal to the Road Trip Grill. The accessories you'll need the most are a brass grill cleaning brush and a good quality grill cover (not a $9.99 special).

Sometimes, it's just not worth fixing some things.

Side metal pieces that cover the Viking grill burner are rusted. Do I need to replace the whole burner or just use until burner holes become clogged that then replace?

I would suggest first lifting them out, give them good brush with wirebrush, check if holes are not clogged, check for any not surface damage, they ususally rust bit over on the surface and that is all.

If grill flame is working correctly, and grating have still "decent" thickness and is not falling to pieces, I would still use them normally.

Rust on the grate is usually caused by not using it and exposure to rain/water, as this grating is usually rather solid, surface rust will not affect it. If you have model with stainless graing - there should be no rust on stainless...

That is one of the reasons why you should not wash your grill after use! Fat from cooked food is protecting it from environment.

Hope this will help your worries at bay :-) Enjoy your grill!
