Question about Rinnai RHFE-1004FA 38,400 BTU Energy Saver Ductless Heater - LP Gas

1 Answer

Rennai Heater is overheating. We have cleaned filters, blown out any debris but still overheats and then filter lights and room temp lights start blinking. Shows flashing 14 and then will not restart

When you say you blew out the debris, what did you use? Have you removed the front cover and looked inside the unit? Are the louvers all open? And last but not least, does the circulating fan come on and blow air out the front?

    Keep us posted,

I have a rennai energysaver 556ftr heater, and the filter and on light keeps flashing red, i've taken out the filter and cleaned it, but still the lights are flashing. what's wrong?

If you removed the filter to clean it, while the unit was ON, that may be the problem. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from wall outlet. Leave unplugged for 15 minutes. Remove and replace the filter. After 15 minutes has elapsed, plug the unit into the wall outlet and turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. The unit should have reset itself and reverted back to the original factory default settings. In which case, you can change the settings to what you desire.

Just remember to always turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF, when removing the filter to clean and replace it.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Control flashes oh

This code is for an OverHeat situation.
This could happen for a number of reasons. The most likely are either a clogged impeller inside the circulation pump, or a clogged cartridge filter.

Even if the filter looks clean, they only have 6 months recommended use in a residential hot tub before invisible debris start to clog them. Once the filter is clogged, the flow of water is greatly reduced. Once the water flow is reduced, the water flowing through the heating element starts to OverHeat due to being in contact with with the heater for too long.

Cut the power to the spa off, remove the filter element, reapply power to the spa, and check for the code. If it does not reappear, simply get a new filter element.

If the code reappears, clean out the pump impeller. and reset power again.

As a last resort, you might have to check the thermistor. Its rare, but a thermistor can fail and show a false high temp reading.

Oh code on a 1999 hydro spa, is it a temp sensor or what

OH is for OverHeat.
The most common causes of the overheat code are:
1. clogged or damaged pump which causes a low flow situation which in turn superheats the water moving through the heating chamber.

2. Very dirty filter which will cause low flow of water and superheat the water moving through the heater. (even if the filter looks clean, it might be clogged with small particulate matter that the eye cant see. )(to check and see if this is the problem, just make sure the hot tub is free of floating debris, and then remove the filter element. Restart the spa and see if the code comes back)

3. The last but most unlikely item would be a bad temperature sensor.

If this post helped you, please give the post a positive rating.

Heater turns on and heats 2-3 degress then the service heater light comes on.After about 1 minute the heater fires back up and the light goes out and it repeats this cycle until it up to set temp.

Your "bypass valve" may be wide open, which causes the heater to overheat and shut down till it cools off. Just after the filter there is a pipe, then a valve, then another pipe.Close the valve at least 1/2 way (if not more). This will force water through the heater and keep it from overheating.

How do i clean the rennai

Remove the filter(S) on the top trim panel off. Vacuum the rear of the heater. Also vacuum the side panels where the return air enters in the back of the heater. You can also remove the front main panel and lightly vacuum the area to the right of the heat exchanger. You are done!

The air coming from the registers does not feel very warm and my house is cold most of the time. The furnace is a Goodman and is only 3 or 4 years old.

change the filters first thing. Make sure it is operating correctly. You can use another thermometer and leave in room and see if it matches the temp on theremostat. Forced air is a little cooler. Make sure all your vents are open.
