Hi, if you can hear the drive spinning up but then making a clicking noise this means the heads have failed, this would need to be opened up (ideally in a clean room), if the platters are okay you can replace the heads... but if your data is precious to you I would reccomend sending it to a data recovery company Digital Recovery (www.digitalrecovery.co.nz) are fairly good.

Easy, just hook up old drive as secondary and new drive as primary. Copy what you need from the secondary onto the primary. When you are done, just disconnect the secondary drive and enjoy your new one.

I have unplugged my Toshiba Canvio 500 GB Basics Portable Hard Drive usb cable while transfering data, and my windows won't detect anymore. And i scan with some tools it says its have a bad sector at...

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program to recover lost files.

Hello, What cable or adaptor do I need to transfer all data from the hard disk of my Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 to my new laptop via USB port? Thanks.

You won't be able to transfer hard drive data by plugging one computer into another via USB. In order to transfer data, you will need to remove the hard drive from the Toshiba Satellite Pro, use an external hard drive enclosure, and attach that to your new computer with any USB cable.
The hard drive can be taken out by removing screws on the bottom of your laptop. The drive can be found in the bottom left of this picture: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a205/big/toshiba-satellite-a200-a205-02.jpg
Here is an example of the exclosure you would need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817816013

How can I connect my hard drive of my toshiba a15-s127 which wont power-up because of a corrupt/missing file, to my second computer to back it up ... and will it transfer any bugs that could be on that old...

You must remove the hard drive and get an external enclosure for it. Best Buy or Microcenter will be able to help you with finding the correct enclosure (You will want a 2.5" enclosure in either IDE or SATA. The hard drive will have the type printed on it to help you decide).

This can then be plugged into your new computer to transfer data. Bugs won't be transferred, but viruses could be if they infected your personal documents, but your virus scanner should be able to catch that.

My seagate barracuda 7200.9 120GB hard disk hardware board emitted a smoke when i switched on my PC.I found out a small piece of part of the board (black color) showed signs of burnt.I could hardly read...

regan_santos it is against FixYa Terms Of Service to post an email address, or respond to one.
Just pointing that out.

From my own small piece of advice, I would replace the circuit board with one from another Seagate 7200.9 Barracuda Plus 120GB harddrive. Buy a good used one.

This way you can install the circuit board on the one you want to retrieve data from, then reinstall it back on the one you bought, after you have retrieved your data, and have a working Harddrive.

Buying just that circuit board? Mmmm, no.

Just from a quick search,

http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=52592

http://www.allhdd.com/index.php?target=products&mode=search&subcats=Y&type=extended&avail=Y&pshort=Y&pfull=Y&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&cid=0&q=ST3120026A&src=ggl

Information on Harddrives,

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

Do I know if the damage has gone further than just the circuit board? No, I do not.
Therefore it is a decision only you can make if it is worth the money spent.
There are also professional data recovery services. ($$$$$)

Save/load problem on ps3

You can try to reformat the entire hard drive, or you can buy a new hard drive.

To reformat the drive, in the PS3 menu:

NOTE: This will erase everything you saved on the hard drive.

1) Go to the Settings menu, then select System Settings.
2) Select Format Utility, then select Format Hard Disk.
3) Select Quick Format

To replace the Hard Drive, buy any 2.5 inch notebook hard drive that has a serial ATA connection. Then remove the old hard drive from the left side of the PS3 and install the new hard drive.

I have no floppy disc drive

Couple of quick options one is that some software will also recognise a thumb drive as an alternate to a floppy and let you continue that way.

Another is to go out and buy one of the cheap usb powered floppy drives.

Memory transfer

You have several ways:

Pc transfer cable: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8136956&st=vista+transfer+cable&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1158323064562

USB Flash Drive: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8281352&st=sandisk+flash+drive&type=product&id=1171672069828

External HDD: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8744727&st=external+hard+drive&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1202648989640

The transfer cable is usually used when you buy a new computer and you just need to transfer a bunch of data from one computer to the next. It comes with simple software to easily transfer your data.

The USB Flash Drive is used when you only have a small amount of data to transfer. A lot of people use it as extra storage if they need to constantly use data from multiple computers or if they always want to have a particualr file handy.

An external Hard Drive is most commonly used for backing up data or when you need to transfer a lot of data but you won't be able to have both of them right next to each other.

And finally, if you don't want to deal with the hassle of any of these solutions, you can take it to a tech center like Best Buy's Geek Squad who can transfer the data for you.
