Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

Washer stops after the tub fills, agitator and tub do not spin

I have a 8-12 year old Whirlpool Estate washing machine. It will stop once the tub has filled with water. I have to slam the lid down to get it to continue the wash cycle. Now, the agitator and tub do not spin. It goes through the entire was cycle, without either of these working. I have checked and the belt is still on.

I will check it when I get home. I think that explains why it stops in mid cycle. Once I slam the lid down and the cycle starts again, the agitator and tub do not move. Is this related to the lid switch or is this something different?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Scott

Your lid switch is bad. If you give model number I can give you the part number you need.

    Hey Scott,

If motor starts and there is no agitating or spin your motor coupling is likely bad or could be your clutch.

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

My Estate Whirlpool Washer, model #TAWS850PQ0 fills the tub but does nothing else. It does not agitate or spin, just hums.

if it cuts off the water ok and motor running
it could be a coupling .
possible transmission.
if no motor noise
could be motor .
wiring,
timer.

Won't agitate or spin

If you mean that when the unit should be agitating or spinning the motor is running, and you lift the lid causing the motor to stop running, it sounds like the coupler.

Washer keeps filling w/ water, only stops when changed to spin

Your drain line is too low.
OR the drain line is restricting air where it enters the drain stand pipe.
Remove the drain line and hold it up high.
Turn the washer on to fill. It should fill then stop.
This example should explain what you must do to correct the drain line problem.

Estate washer won't spin

If it still agitates and fills, this is most likely due to a faulty lid switch.

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.

Spin tub won't stop

LOL kinda wanna keep her alive I see?? an you got your moneys worth or someone did!! Ok your problem is probably the old mechanical timer on the face as the leaf switchs can break and not release as the cam goes past them.I checked with my source at www.repairclinic.com and they didnt list the model so make sure its correct. Timers cost about 75.00 all the way up to 150 bucks for some types. Good luck. You can go to that site to see for yourselfs if you get a good model # or call them.
